Note--Patrick McGoohan played Longshanks, King Edward I
in the Mel Gibson movie, Braveheart.

I also enjoyed The Prisoner TV series. Was quite good!

AMC is doing a mini-series this year, with ian mckellan as #2 and jim caveizal as #6.

i can only hope that with these 2 accomplished actors, it will be worthy of patrick's original.

Patrick McGoohan was, what I thought, was my favorite Irish actor. Now I find out he was a New Yorker. The things you learn about people when they die...amazing. I liked him in the series Secret Agent. Which I watched religiously.
Perhaps he really has discovered who the "real" Number One is..you know, what George Carlin referred to as.. "The Invisible Man In The Sky" who sees all and helps some.

He is, reread my post. It doesn't say G. Carlin believes in the Christian god, it says he is laughing at the whole idea of a god that grants everyone's prayer even when the prayers are all against everyone else that is also a christian. Carlin was referring to how many people stare up into the sky when they pray. As if there was an invisible deity there to help them.

I watched the 2008 World Series of Poker on PPV and in all 14 hours of coverage, the eventual winner, an immigrant from Laos, who's been converted to Christianity, prayed on every hand. But he didn't pray to win any hands, he prayed for everyone else at the table to lose. That doesn't sound very "Christian" to me.

Alison a girl I work with said to me today that it was irony that I’d written about The Prisoner last week as she’d just completed watching the series the evening before & what’s more it sounds that the show has had an affect upon Alison.

As I’ve said many times previously The Prisoner is the greatest television series in support of individual liberty, on a par with literary masterpieces such as Brave New World & Nineteen Eighty Four & in fact it achieves more.

My friend Gardner has compiled two podcasts explaining the significance of The Prisoner….

http://www.thedeviantlibertarian.net/Pr ... dcast1.mp3
http://www.thedeviantlibertarian.net/Pr ... dcast2.mp3

….One thing that Gardner picks up on is something I picked up when I first watched the series, which was not only was McGoohan having a rant against coercive authority but how the stupidity of social convention, considering my inner nature it was something I identified particularly with the way authority uses social convention to oppress the non conformist & therefore individual liberty.

‘The village is a place which attempts to destroy individualism by every means’
‘Village **** is happening around us everyday’

These are two quotes from an interview I recently unearthed with Patrick McGoohan
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=f6gPztzkNMQ

The irony upon me about The Prisoner is that much of what McGoohan was ranting against with The Prisoner is much the same as I rant about with the nascence of surrealism yet I’m often laughed at or told what I’m talking ****.

If you’ve not as yet seen the series well you now can see all 17 episodes for free online http://www.amctv.com/originals/the-pris ... 60s-series

Thanks, Ziggy. I have seen it, but this lets me watch it again without renting the DVDs.

Let me stress something though yes there are strong political overtones to The Prisoner there are stronger overtones defending non conformity & that's why I'd suggest anybody here should watch it.

Thanks for the link Ziggy. As one of those who has never seen the series but has heard lots of people praising it I guess I'll have to find time to give it a whirl.

Have fun,

Ian.
