Hear, hear!!!

I've always felt that the best way to get something accepted is to simply go forth and do it (in this case, "wear it"), so long as it doesn't violate any rules of law. In this way, people will see the concept in action, carried out by someone confident enough in himself to do it, and will have their curiosities piqued by it.

Sapphire and I were out the other night at our local "establishment" and, as usual, I was wearing a skirt (black, calf-length, with my blue waistcoat, and lemon-yellow dress shirt). There was a promotion going on for "Coors Light" (a watery form of "near beer") and a local radio station, so the place was full of different people rather than the "regulars". I got chatted up because I was wearing a skirt (actually, Sapphire handled the chat as I was in a bit of a sullen mood and really wanted to be left alone having had a bad week at work). So, the more folks that see you, the more their expectations of what's "normal" may bend a bit.

There ya go, all those nice folks went back to their studio to report to their bosses about the skirted man they'd seen that was unfriendly and sullen and who'd sent his wife to talk to them because he didn't feel like it. By now, it's probably all over wherever they are from that they almost met a man in a skirt but he wasn't talkative or friendly. Don't hit me. :hide:

Actually, it had nothing to do with the radio folks. It was a rather pushy potty-mouthed woman who started off inquiring whether I wore skirts for religious reasons. I was polite enough, I just didn't feel like chatting and was rather put off because she kept dropping the "F word" every ten or fifteen syllables.

On the way out, however, we ran into a couple of our neighbours and stood around chatting with them for a while. So, the evening wasn't a total loss.

Who knows, I'm scared of tall dark and handsome guys. I'm just a short chubby old guy that's scared of his shadow. I'm short compared to you I mean. I'm a measly 6' I used to be 6'1'' but age shortens people. Gravity I think. :hide:

Those words pretty much sum up what many of us are constantly saying. Now if only men would take those words to heart and take on their non abiding partners,   and hope that their bosses may also be over won. If not, at least take their private lives in hand and make it a skirtd life. 8)
A man is the same man in a pair of pants or a skirt. It is only the way people look at him that makes the difference.

A librarian tried to track down the author of that wonderful little poem. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Poetry-678/REAL-author.htm
He or she said, "The problem with these little "inspirational poems" is that they are written by unknown/obscure authors. Other people take great liberty with the poems, changing a few words or lines -- and then TAKING CREDIT for a "new" poem," then advised people to go with the earliest printed source they could find: Walter D. Wintle, "The Man Who Thinks He Can." - Poems That Live Forever, comp. Hazel Feldman 1965

Anyway, I'm glad I remembered it and could add it to those souls who had forgotten it. By the way, who the heck is "spike"? :thewave: :thewave: :thewave:

Well, to tell the other side of the story regarding the potty mouthed woman......

She was depressed, lonesome and drunk. Her husband had left her a couple of weeks before. She was just looking for conversation but handled it poorly.

I pointed out to her that Carl's skirt wearing was a fashion choice, nothing less, nothing more. I also pointed out that when I was a child I would never have been allowed to wear the outfit she had on: Jeans jacket, leather vest, printed top, jeans and boots. I said that she has the freedom to choose what would have been considered men's apparel or skirts. Why shouldn't men have equal freedom. She said she understood, dropped the subject and cried on my shoulder for her husband leaving her..

This isn't the first time I've stepped in. No one, Carl included, can be expected to be perky all of the time.

Sapphire:
Nice to have the Paul Harvey "The rest of the story"!
Too often judgement is passed before getting the complete picture.

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

As beers go, Coors Light is like making love in the bottom of a boat - that swill's f_ _ _in' near water!

Kudos to Diana for handling the situation so perfectly. She wins the Tammy Wynette Award (Stand By Your Man)!
