Crips, Bloods and Serranos

Post by Since1982 »

Has anyone but me noticed stories about gangland and the Crip/Blood/Serrano "look"? Most of those gang types are now wearing extra long shorts that are VERY wide and the crotch is almost down to their knees, similar to "Sailor's trousers" from the 1700's. IF the shorts were cut off 2 inches up from the hem they'd be skirts. I wonder what would happen to you if you pointed that out to a Crip or Blood or Serrano? :thewave: :thewave: :thewave: :thewave: :thewave: :alien:

I thought the same about these "knee level crotch" baggy shorts. I have seen a few in England, usually worn by teenagers.

Colin, you might ask those teenagers why they wear such low cut baggy shorts and maybe suggest to them they move one step farther into skirts. Make a real fashion statement and start a new trend. They could name the skirt type after themselves and get rich selling the idea to teenagers around the world. They are young, they might believe you. :thewave: :thewave: :thewave: :thewave: :thewave: :alien:

Well, I've seen a lot of gangstas and gangsta-wannabes not just wearing those ridiculous pants, but sometimes they'd be wearing an oversized t-shirt or jersey, so huge you'd think they were wearing nightshirts!

Now, what's with the baggy pants of street gangs? Several explanations...a)California prisons. Belts, good for hanging, strangling and whipping, are banned. And not all prisons issue one-piece jumpsuits. Many prisoners were given pants that were too large (better too large than too small, eh?) so they'd sag. Gang members who were free took to copying the "prison style" as a show of solidarity... b) deliberately wanting to look like a slob.... c)shoplifting. It's easier to hide the loot in some oversized pants. Just pray that it doesn't clink or clank. Not to mention it's easier for stuffing a "piece" or "pizzle" or "gat", to use gangsta terms for "firearms." A few crooks, though, have been THWARTED by these pants, having them slip at the worst possible moment.

I like the idea of gangsta skirts, i guess getting it to sell....I suppose if Polynesian gang members decided to "show their island pride" and wear sarongs more, maybe that would help (right now, though, you have kids in Polynesia who ape LA gangs, and thus wear the same baggy pants). Or, as I've explained above, if prisons, especially those in California, started making some sort of kilt, skirt, or sarong standard issue for prisoners, with exceptions only given to those doing work that requires leg movement...and you could argue that it's harder to kick or run away if it's the right kind of skirt.....then maybe it would "trickle down." Interesting, eh?

The other way would just be if a famous rappa started wearing skirts, kilts, or sarongs on stage.

The paradox....they want to "stand out"....so they end up all being identical!
