Newbie in town!

Hi Everyone,

I have been looking in on you folks for awhile. And for the most part I have enjoyed reading all your comments. Some of you fly off the handle but then others seem to have a very mature way of looking at things and I can tell they have thought a lot about what they have said. I like that!

My husband after 30 years of marriage came home from an extended work venture and announced he wanted to wear skirts(among other things). This along with losing a child at birth I think has been the hardest thing we have gone through together.
Needless to say we have had our rocky roads. I love my husband and I would do almost anything for him. However I really had a road block about him wearing a skirt. Why you ask? Well I will tell you what I told him...I don't know why....?? Every logical way I think of this I come up with Why NOT!! And yet when I first saw him in a skirt my heart did flip flops and just hurt. Now why is that? I don't know probably my up bring and at 55 you would think I could over ride that but I am *still* working on that.
I have gotten excited about him wearing things I can sew which is crazy in it's own way. However we have always been a team, we like to do things together.
We have come to some agreements that I think we can both live with. Not that we won't have some more bumps in the road but will take them as they come.

A little bit about me. I am happily married for 31 years. Have two grown children. One married and the other attending college. I love sports, sailing,baking goodies,children,and all kinds of crafts.

Now that I am in you'll be hearing from me now and again.
You have been a wonderful group for my husband (who invited me in)and have given him lots of good advice and support.

Welcome, Toni. We all appreciate a woman's prespective. Just don't search for the logic in our world. A man's desire to stand apart by wearing skirts isn't any more logic-based than your own initial reasons for disliking it. But, believe it or not, we're reasonably normal mostly middle-aged men who lead otherwise normal, even mundane, lives.

You are correct in that sometimes pure logic doesn't explain a lot of the things that we as humans do -- we just do them. Sometimes it's because we always have, and sometimes it's overt curiosity about something new and unexplored (like skirts for guys). Curiosity should be celebrated and encouraged, because without it we'd be a lot poorer as a species.

Interestingly, when it comes to skirts for guys, there really can be no rational explanation as to why it's "forbidden territory". The notion of "why NOT" merely scratches the surface and tries to apply logic to something that's, on the face of it, irrational. But, sometimes that's the best we can do.

You guys made the connection she is my wife, right? Well, she has decided I am having too much fun with you all and decided to joln in. Perhaps to answer the unanswerable question!

In any case, things have settled down quite a bit on our end, we are enjoying Spring and looking forward to boating.

My interest in skirting remains and I wear skirts around the house, and kilts out there. This is a comfortable place to be and it's where we will stay for now.

Anyone who is interested in a sailboat ride in Ohio, lets us know. We would love to host you. TooSlowPrius of this group (aka Steve) helped us set the boat up yesterday. The wind was blowing pretty hard and nearly yanked his 146 pounds right off the boat as we were raising the sail! Steve is good help and good company, looking forward to a summer cruise with him and perhaps his wife.

you're making me jealous!

I'm just finishing my teaching term here in New Orleans and getting ready to head back up north to our boat in Puget Sound, where we will spend the summer. It'll take until early June before we are actually on board, though. And then I think we will suffer through a few weeks of refitting before we can undertake any proper cruises.

So I'm jealous that you've already had canvas up!

And yes - I do wear a skirt when I sail!

Yes, it did feel good to be back on deck and hauling up the sail. The genny is a monster (100%, 50' mast). It was blowing 12 and gusting into the high teens. Damn near knock me off the bow too and I outweigh Steve by quite a bit.

It was a bit cool up at the lake -- mid 60's. With that wind, it got chilly. But the warm days on on their way.

If you are ever in Ohio in the summer, come on down!

What you guys are probably unaware of is that Annie Oakley was born in Ohio very close to whar we live. Of course, all young girls are taught to handle guns. One of Annie's favorite tricks was to toss a card in the air, then shoot it on edge, then 6 more times before it hit the ground. The best my Toni has been able to accomplish is edge on, then 3 times. Probably an issue with the rifle.

I have attached a recent photo of my wife, it was taken a few yars ago, but it's still her likeness. All Ohio women dress this away.

Har Har! and I'm Captain Thunderbolt (AKA Fred Ward, a local outlaw who (supposedly) died in a shootout with a police trooper.) Local legend says it was his cousin and that he died in Queensland, a grandfather and respected citizen some decades later. By the way welcome to toni, or is that Annie Oakley?

Thank you for the warm welcome!
As you can see my husband has a witty sense of humor. On the other hand Annie Oakley has been one of my favorite mentors since I was a child. I grew up in a family of nine...6 of them brothers...yes I was a "Tom Boy". I never liked wearing skirts cause I could not climb trees or play baseball with my brothers if I was wearing a dumb skirt.

I think this is more than half the battle for me and men in skirts. Why would you want to wear those things anyway? Of course this is my 7 year old speaking. I can see (understand) why you would want to wear them now. As you are not climbing trees or playing baseball you are more likely just walking down the street and lounging around in which case what a wonderful thing to be wearing a skirt or a jumper which is not binding anywhere. As for what you look like in them well everyone is entitled to their opinion!

Having a supporting SO is a very important thing, even if they never do half of what you or I or we do. It's still a very nice thought that someone has your back because it's really hard to do it by yourself.
