looking for a type of skirt
looking for a type of skirt
A few years back, I found a website with a skirt that "converted" into shorts. I believe they had snaps in the center which could be snapped into shorts or snapped into a skirt. Does anyone remember seeing this product or know of anything similar? My wife wouldn't aprove of me wearing a skirt, but if I could wear them as shorts around her, it's be okay. Thanks.
The only garment I recall seeing like this was made by Jdez who call it a Men's Cargo Mock Kilt/Short. I have one of these and rather like it but you should be aware that:
It is very lightweight and underwear will show through it, so you really need to add a slip or "underkilt" to it if you are likely to wear it anywhere with bright light.
The snap at the hem is OK while seated but I find it causes the hem to rub against my legs when I walk; one of my main reasons for wearing a skirt is to get away from that sort of discomfort...
The snap is not easy to refasten discretely, it takes quite a bit of groping around under your crotch to find and align the two halves. Unfortunately it is also relatively easy to undo unintentionally, for instance I find that sitting in a car and sliding under the steering wheel usually results in it coming unfastened.
The limitations above don't bother me as I wanted a shortish, light, skirt with usable pockets, but it is always better to go into these things with your eyes open, especially as it is not cheap.
Have fun,
Ian.

Do not argue with idiots; they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Aha! Found it!
Have a look at Runningkilts.com. The site looks like it is in the middle of a rebuild, but the Running kilt is a short skirt which looks surprisingly like shorts, designed for runners, it looks like they have started making them but if you prefer you can get a free pattern and make your own.
If I remember right from the original web site, there is some sort of snap to preserve modesty while doing warm up exercises or whatever, but I see nothing mentioned at the moment.

Re: looking for a type of skirt
Sounds like the Macabi Skirt. They are marketed in versions for both women and men. See....hobbit wrote:A few years back, I found a website with a skirt that "converted" into shorts. Here's a site I found last night.

I know nothing about them. Has anyone tried anything from them. They seem to be based in Bristol. Must be close to you, Charlie!
The Stealth Kilt (seems to be of the same kind as the runningkilt mentioned before.

Of these mentioned, only the JDez and Stealthkilt look like conventional shorts. The Macabi is great but looks odd in its "short" mode. The JDez has the disadvantages shown above and is not cheap. The Runningkilt is simply a short skirt and does not bear close examination.(even though it does what it says).
Certainly the Stealthkilt looks like shorts in the web picture. I would like to try one but nothing would persuade me to wear anything in combat or camouflage material! Perhaps Mr Anubis could do a plain sand or stone color.
