Point About Being Taken Seriously

Post by ziggy_encaoua »

Its likely that if you argue for Men’s Fashion Equality or Fashion Freedom etc as a stand alone issue folk generally won’t take you seriously.

However my advice is if you incorporate it into wider argument for male equality or free expression its more likely folk will take note. I’m speaking from personal experience here & well I thought worth sharing it.

I've done that with my gf and she agrees about women being able to wear whatever they want since birth, and men are really limited on things. It might or really was a discussion about equality and how women are given things just because they can be flirty and look pretty in front of a guy who thinks "i might get her number and then later when she's drunk, she might put out" which rarely happens.

My gf was also telling me on the phone that when we went to one of my friend's bday parties at a bar. She went to pee and then walked over to the entrance where this girl came in wearing very little with some guy who was telling the security at the front that she was with him. My gf then at this point walking up to the entrance and gave the security guy 2 raised eyebrows kind of like saying, "oh, you're letting her in for free?" and then said, well if you let her in for free, then you're giving me my $5 back and my bf's $5 back as well. So the guy said, "that will be $5, and made her pay" which satisfied my gf, and me as well.

God, yeah, those night clubs are the sharp end where shadowy hints of sexism become inflated into a monument, even into a whole pinnacle of excellence.

One time I was turned away for wearing sandals. It was the summer, for Christ's sake. "Why can't I go in? Look, I have money."

"Sorry, mate, safety. Broken glass. Could do yourself an injury."

Next people to go in were three women with tiny little shoes held together with bits of black cotton. "Hey, what about their shoes?"

Baleful glare, stare into middle distance, firmly shut door. Puffing of gigantic chest. "Sorry mate."

Yes, if we men don't dress like we're rich 'n' ready to fork out dosh on drinks for half dressed women, like we're plums ready for picking, then we're not welcome and that's all there is to it.
The only thing man cannot endure is meaninglessness.

Iain,

Perhaps you should have tried to get in in a skirt...

Have fun,

Ian.
