precursor to jesus christ...

Post by r1g0r »

some time ago there was a reference on this board (i think) about a pre-christianity religion whose "messiah" bore a striking anecdotal resemlance to jesus christ.

several tales (walking on water / rising after 3 days dead / lazarus / etc...) are mirrored in this other religious narrative that pre-dated christianity.

i'm hoping that somebody on this board will be able to help point me in the direction of the correct information.

many thanks!
you know... george orwell warned us!

Interesting. I don't know a thing about that, but, if there is such a legend, would like to know

It was Mithras:

Also in Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy, there's a whole chapter devoted to influences on Christianity from Mithras, Platonism, Isis,...

(the book is actually much more 'readable' than the title suggests.. it's actually as much enjoyable as a philopophy book can get :D )

Jan, thank you for the information.

Since this thread is off-topic and the original question has been answered, I'm now closing it.
