well
Everytime I go out and I am out of the stereotype mostly other men shout at me and so on.Many people just stare, but I must fight for my rights and never give it up. Narrowmindedness is none of my problems, but theirs. May be people in my country are more negative towards out of the macho stuff than in the States or UK, before I thought that I would never go out like that but now i am doing it. Not easy though

There is nothing worse than double standard!

Funny how these threads take twists toward the heavy side. When I saw the subject line "pumps and money" I immediately thought about a gas station! Gasoline has gone up twenty cents a gallon in the last week!

So what are you paying now? In the UK the price of unleaded is now around £1 per litre (about $7.80 US per gallon, after I've corrected for your undersized gallons).Sasquatch wrote:Funny how these threads take twists toward the heavy side. Have fun,
Ian.
Do not argue with idiots; they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I paid (US)$2.88 per gallon of 87 octane stuff just this morning; I expect it'll be $2.89 or $2.90 later today (the rise is that noticeable). So what are you paying now?
Yow! At least your petrol is better stuff than ours, I believe your "basic juice" is 95 octane. Here, that's aviation gas.In the UK the price of unleaded is now around £1 per litre (about $7.80 US per gallon, after I've corrected for your undersized gallons).
[Bluster]By the by, and just who are you calling "undersized"?[/Bluster]

87 octane? I doubt if my car would actually run on that.
As you say basic unleaded here is 95 octane though I find I get cleaner running and better economy by using "Shell V power" or similar 97 octane stuff.
Have fun,
Ian.

I run "premium" (90+ Octane) in my 7.5L V8. I am currently in the Redwood forests of Northern California, where it is over US$3.5 / USGallon.
And, as my fuel economy is all of 7.5 miles / gallon, you can see that my fuel cost is just about US$0.50/mile.
Lovely, ain't it?
But of course, I am driving a motorhome (caravan.) Our gypsy life means that we carry our home on our backs. What is the fuel economy of your home? <smile>
Chris - Currently on my annual migration from the state of Washington to the state of Louisiana, by way of California and Texas.... with a trip to Western Australia (by air!) thrown in mid-route.

The last time we filled up it was $1.33 per litre, diesel costs $1.40. As to the undersized U.S. gallon, a good indication is the Australian (imperial) 44 gallon drum holds 55 U.S. gallons. Nuff said?
ChrisM, you two should consider coming over to the East of Australia where, if in schedule, we could put you up and show you around the areas.

Well of course we do fly in and out of NSW. I have been to Sydney several times before, but my wife has not, so we have booked a one-night layover at our departure: We will fly PER>SYD on 9 Dec, spend all of 10 Dec having a walkabout, and then fly to USA 11 Dec. We're booked into the Ibis Hotel at the airport.
For my walkabout I fancied just having a taxi take us up to Double Bay, and then walk via the arboretum over to the Rocks. Give Debbie an overview of the city, and I know she wants to spend hours watching the Flying Foxes in the trees. See the Opera House. Dinner in the shadow of the bridge. And then a taxi back to the hotel.
Make sense?

Re: pumps and money
I'm glad you had a nice evening out and helped somebody win a bet, Peter. Your comments about enjoying the attention made me smile. It is fun to be noticed. Many men seem to fear what will happen when people look at them in a skirt. Your post is a reassurance that it can be a positive experience to stand out.Peter v wrote:It wasn't so busy, but I did notice some people looking at me, probably because of my heels. Sydney stopover
Chris, the Sydney stopover makes a lot of sense. I am sure Debbie will enjoy it. Sorry we can't make a meeting as we are in Armidale N.S.W. about 550 km away. Looking to move to Bellingen in the near future. Bellingen is an alternative enclave in the subtropics.
Re: pumps and money
Thank you, I think that if you are not enjoying it, there's something not right. Simply because, even though you know that you may stand out, you are still yourself. Unless you are purposely getting attention, which I don't think is the case here with our members or myself, then it feels good, at least to me, a feeling of acceptance, as I am. And everybody should be happy with being himself.Skirt Chaser wrote:I'm glad you had a nice evening out and helped somebody win a bet, Peter. Your comments about enjoying the attention made me smile. Difficult to put in writing, but I think I got it right.

PS, Petrol prices climb up and down the price ladder so much, I can't keep up with them. Just hope we can pay when we have to fill 'er up.
A man is the same man in a pair of pants or a skirt. It is only the way people look at him that makes the difference.

This is NOT fact. There are parts of the world and some cultures where women are put to death for wearing men's clothing.
as a another off-topic comment, I saw in the paper this morning where a rape victim has been sentenced to 200 lashes plus 6 months in jail..
Her crime? A single woman being out in the company of men outside of her family; [the rapists were jailed for between 2 and 9 years - so it wasn't entirely one-sided -> there is some punishment, though relatively mild..].
Some of the comments by some other contributors on here do continue along a conservative_USA/WASP'ish line, whilst ignoring the wider world out there, don't they ?

The US pint is 16 fluid ounces;Sarongman wrote:The last time we filled up it was $1.33 per litre, diesel costs $1.40. As to the undersized U.S. gallon, a good indication is the Australian (imperial) 44 gallon drum holds 55 U.S. gallons. Nuff said?
the UK/Oz ("Imperial"..) pint is 20 fl. oz.;
hence the US gallon is 20% smaller, or the UK gal. is 25% bigger, whichever way you are approaching it from...
This week I paid $1.26 AUD per litre, here in the Lake Macquarie/Newcastle region - which would be just over $4 US / US gallon; [would have been closer to $5 a few weeks ago, but thanks to the crashing $US it looks better in your money

Australia is reputed to be the third "cheapest" region, after the Middle East and North America, for petroleum prices these days - though nowhere is really cheap these days - and this is a finite and diminishing resource we are talking about here.
