Glad to get out of a skirt!!

Post by howard h »

Just spent four consecutive days (over Easter hols) at Blackpool hockey festival. As is the norm, my kit was sox, shirts and skirts (pleated wrap-round and straight lycra) from 9am Friday 'till 1pm Monday. The only time not in a skirt was taking breakfast in the hotel!
By Monday, tired, weary, hungover but happy, it was good to get back into a comfy pair of pants to go home...and it had become very chilly, anyway!
My team came fifth out of appx 26 starters not bad:cheer:
11 months to go 'till the next one!

PS Nobody-apart from two puzzled boys-gave a toss. In fact, not sure anyone noticed!

Just as a matter of interest - what sort of socks were you wearing? And what sort of shoes or boots? I find decent footwear for men to wear with skirts the hardest thing to work out.

Probably was something similar to soccer or rugby socks. No ph or tights. Shoes would be soccer-type, most likely.

Dimpled trainers and knee-length hockey sox. No pantyhose with a skirt (!!) although I do wear p/h (tights) in winter under shorts to keep the cold off.

I think pantyhose would defeat the comfort of a skirt - seems a bit like wearing tight trousers with a skirt on top. I find boots and ankle length thick walking socks or knee length kilt hose work well with a casual kilt, including denim. For me, trainers work OK with shorts but don't seem to look right with a skirt type garment.

Tights

Post by ChrisM »

I have recently been pondering the comfort of tights, and came to a sort of conclusion that may be useful: I find them comfortable, but obviously in conflct with the comfort of a skirt, so what is it?

In my subjective analysis, I find that I prefer the two extremes: Either skirt or tights, but not the middle ground of trousers. In the case of skirt the liberty is obvious. In the case of tights the constraint prevents movement and thus chafe or other discomfort. In the case of trousers there is a constant annoyance of fabric on skin.

This explains, no doubt, why I have always been a "briefs not boxers" man as well.

I throw this out to the group just as one possible explanation of why so many of the blokes are OK with tights.

All the best,

Chris

I think tights (p/h) suitability is what you are wearing them with, and why. Ie if a skirt is worn as a male fashion statement, then tights don't really do it - unless they add to of the outfit, eg leather skirt/kilt + black fishnets with boots is kinda goth and absolutely OK!
Sports shorts + tights, again, absolutely fine, as are walking shorts/tights/thick sox/boots.
Then again, in winter I often wear a mini kilt, slouch sox and ankle boots + fine tights (for wrmth and to hide splodgy bits on my legs!) shirt and, when indoors, pully wrapped round the waist, and it seems to look OK.

I feel comfortable wearing tights or leggings with a skirt, as this makes my legs look better. No good in the hot weather though - and short or medium length socks will have to do then.

I don't have a problem with the tightness of fit around the crotch as I wear moderately tight trunks anyway. I wear Calvin Classic trunks - which are a cheapo version of Calvin Klein trunks. I find that the tights I wear are basically exactly the same fit as the underwear I have on anyhow. So the tights make no difference in that respect. In fact, I quite like the snug fit around my goolies. I'm probably a pervert. :D

I have never gone 'commando' in a skirt - and must try that sometime. I'm always willing to try something new.

[snip...]
But why not a comfortable travel skirt? :)

Flip it around the other way. A guy finds hosiery and thinks, " like the feel. Smooth and silky. Problem is, trousers and shorts get in the way". so he finds a garment called a skirt, which of course freaks him out, but he loves the fact that his legs can now go "swish" as he walks - no sticking, no encumberance, full freedom. As he sees it.

I fully understand the "tights are opposed to skirts vis a vis freedom" but it depends on what viewpoint you are coming from.

I wore tights prior to wearing a skirt (okay, I wore kilts for donkeys) so the approach suggested above is valid for me anyway.
