Utilikilts sent to UK
Utilikilts sent to UK
Does anyone have any experience of ordering from Utilikilts in Seattle, for sending to the UK? I really like their stuff and would like to jump on the bandwagon.

I think this is a bandwagon you might want to exercise caution with, before jumping on it.iain wrote:Does anyone have any experience of ordering from Utilikilts in Seattle, for sending to the UK? I really like their stuff and would like to jump on the bandwagon.
I mean have you seen how much material those things have? You could injure yourself sitting on all those pleats. And surely all those snaps attract lightning -- endangering not just yourself but those around you.
And the pockets! Gosh, I just know that only carpenters and door-to-door proselytizers are the only ones who need and deserve that many pockets.
Not to mention, if all those pleats get out of hand in a breeze, why you could put someone's eye out!
Nope, just to be on the safe side you better stick with a straight skirt with, at most, 2 small pockets. Keep it long enough to protect your modesty (and the rest of us from your immodesty). Or better yet -- trousers.

I bought a Utilikilt 3 years ago. It took 3 weeks to arrive (they told me longer
) and I was able to track it all the way. The downside was the cost of shipping, which added almost 50% to the cost. Somehow I escaped import tax
Since then I've bought a Union kilt which is made this side of the pond. Not quite as heavy as the Utilikilt, but cheaper to post and no import tax!

If I want to dress like a woman, I'll wear jeans.
Wow! A Union Kilt not as heavy as a Utili? I have a Union Kilt and it is the heaviest of the four kilts I own. It's well made though, with pockets. Mine is denim. I put it through the wash recently as I have lost a few pounds and hoped to shrink it a bit - I'm not sure whether I succeeded, but the kilt survived.
I do wish Union Kilts wouldn't put "We Don't Make Underwear" on their packaging though - my wife thought that a bit weird.

Huh?
Obviously you haven't experienced a Spartan UK. Light, comfy, the feel of satin, and modest while being practical with the one big pocket in front. It can be short and still be modest and cool. Jog, ride a bike, and sit with confidence. Try that in a straight skirt.MtnBiker wrote:

I have two proper traditional kilts but they are real heavy so maybe I'll try the utilikilt. thanks for the advice!

Seriously though, I loved my Utilikilt while I had it (until I shrunk out of it). I should get another....
What i noticed about the leather one, which I thought looked great, was that it was the only one offered in short sizes like 17". All the rest seem to start at 20" or so. I wonder why? There was one with angled pockets like on jeans, which I liked also. Their website looks much better than before, too. I hope they are doing well.

I visited them while in Seattle this summer. They are doing quite well. The leather ones are heavier than the workman. They will hem them for a price, but I think most people buy them to wear below the knee. I have 12 UKs, three from eBay, which may be a better deal on shipping. My first one, a original Postal Blue, I got "chopped" to 18". It's better for the warmer months, as well as my blue denim 18". I found a seamstress who will do the beer gut cut for much less. She has done my Sportkilts as well, adding belt loops and sewing down the pleats.
