On my own and unbifurcated!

Post by Scott »

Wow, I don't know if it's a feeling of absence making the heart grow fonder, but I finally got to where I could move back out on my own, and now, even though it's only around the place, I CAN WEAR MY SKIRTS AGAIN!

No blocking the door with a chair or only for a short period of time for fear of getting caught. Granted, it's only baby steps, but as soon as I get home, it's off with the trousers and on with the skirt, half slip (I like how it feels, that's enough) and depending on the house's temp, the tights. I even fell asleep this weekend in my long red gauzy tiered skirt.

I feel so comfortable physically and also mentally, feeling the fabric whipping about my legs, esp. since I've been exercising. My leg muscles usually hurt too much afterward to wear slacks or jeans and since I've been exercising, not only are my clothes looser, but in terms of the type of skirts I wear (mainly the ankle-length crinkled tiered/broomstick/hippie/boho skirts (much prefer girls in them though), a lot more fabric so they're even more comfortable. I've gone out to the laundrette and got a few looks given that the only "female" clothes ever in the wash are lower body garments (no undies) I'm sure some of the ever enlightened locals are thinking ill of me. I'm not thinking of them at all.

And as much as I prefer females in them, I must admit, I look pretty hot ;-)

I chickened out of wearing them to the Goth show, BTW. Sad too, as I saw at least 2-3 other guys in floor length black A-line skirts. Maybe someday. I hope so.

Started telling a few people, friends/co-workers and reaction has ranged from "Right on!" to indifference to "You too?", as I'm sure a lot of people here get. Still, not told the family. Kind of skittish based on how the sort of s.o.'s son reacted.

Anyway, just hadn't checked in for a bit, actually since the switch took place. The dryspell is over though and I'm thrilled. Hoping schedules can get together with the S.O. No way am I wearing denim the next time we meet, unless it's my blue column one (aka Pentecostal girl's uniform) or blue or black A-line ones (aka Home Ec. teacher's uniform).

Welcome back!

Glad things are improving. None of that 'shoving a chair under the door' is necessary, but I do remember the fears in the early days.

As I have gotten more comfortable with my skirt wearing I actually notice it less and less. Many of the other guys have said the same thing, so I am not claiming any new insight. Indeed, I may even be a slow learner. But their encouragement was helpful to me, so I will pass my encouragement on to you.

Get out there in whatever what you want, and the heck with the stereotypes.

Skirt!!!!!!!!!

:) Hey Gang, you can go to Old Navy and try on a skirt, and no one even thinks twice about it.It is as if it is a everyday thing, maybe it is.The last two times I was in Old Navy in Durham,NC I tried on and bought a skirt. The sales clerks acted as if it happens everyday, and one clerck was a guy.He saw me in the skirt, and said it fit and looked good. One time I went in wearing pants the next time I was wearing a Utilikilt.

Cool! Both of my Old Navy's are thrift-store bought, so I'll have to wear one to their store and go shopping...

Scott, you have summed up something that can't be said often enough here, there is a whole range of reactions. I think there are a lot of men out there in the "you too?" category and we just don't know because they are invisible, limiting skirts only to home wear. A shame they don't know they don't have to.
