Introduction

Post by Butterfly Bill »

I was directed here by a post to Crossdressers.com, and over there they want you to post an introduction. I don't see a separate place for that here, so I will just do it here in the main part of the board.

I am an eccentric relative to the mainstream of the people who post to CD.com. I haven't made up a female name for myself, and I have never worn makeup, or worried about "passing". People in businesses I patronize call me "sir" and I have no desire to change that. I have a full beard, and my icon ("avatar") that I use there shows it, and in the first few days of posting, I actually had a person point that out in a private message , "are you sure this is where you want to be?" But I stayed anyway.

But it looks like I might also be a weirdo here as well. I wear skirts, but most of the time I go beyond that and wear dresses. And I like floral prints and pink and blue and purple, and sometimes even lace trim. I have also worn pantyhose and pumps and sometimes high heels (but not often). And I shave my legs to make the wearing of hose more comfortable. I won't adamantly insist that I have on not a skirt or a dress but a kilt or a tunic; I am not ashamed to be seen in "women's" clothes. The only MUG I have is the one I drink tea out of.

But I have been out since 1994, and feel I might have some experience to share. I posted a lot to alt.support.crossdressing in the early days until the flame wars totally burned that place black. I've always posted anywhere on the net under the same name I'm using here: Butterfly Bill, or sometimes butterflybill.

Welcome to the Cafe Bill, I think I've seen your posting before, but it's been some time since I've visited CD related sites.

To each their own in what they wear, I'm certainly not going to criticize you for it considering my attire when I skate.

Grab something and sit a spell, maybe you'll come across something you'll like.

Welcome, Bill.

Here you'll find an eclectic mix of people ranging from guys who simply like to sport kilts to those on the periphery of crossdressing (I'm not aware that we have any full-blown transvestites here, but I could be wrong).

In my own case, I stick to as masculine look as possible while trying to integrate a MUG (but not a kilt, which I regard as a specialised, and very overpriced, Scottish garment). I would never consider wearing any item of jewellery (other than a wristwatch), and certainly not cosmetics of any kind, because I regard these as inherently feminine.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll find plenty of people here with whom you have things in common. Enjoy!

I think anybody that drinks tea is welcome at a cafe. :) Glad you made it here, Butterfly Bill. This site is about guys having freedom to be themseleves and the page header says it all- "We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices." I think you'll do fine here.

I'd like to say, "this man needs no introduction."

I've seen your website and some of your posts on "crossdressers.com" (abbr.: CD.com) when I drop by there, and would also like to say "welcome."

Or perhaps: what took you so long? :)

Someone on alt.support.crossdressing suggested I post on CD.com, but I never felt like I had much in common with them, so I never even registered there. Even the "feminine" clothes I wear are not the sort of things they go for, and the stuff they like, I don't. And as for their perspective on femininity -- well, see what you think of my posting here on "Orthodox Crossdressing".

I think you'll find that we're pretty much a mixed bag here. Kind of a minority within a minority. I've seen postings by people afraid that even wearing a kilt at home might be too unacceptable, to the guy who likes to skate in a skating dress (is he still around?)

My impression is that the guys who are afraid to be thought less than 100% male because of what they wear move on to the Kilt sites, while the guys who want to see themselves as "girls" move on to CD.com and the like.

We[*] are left with -- I guess you could call us the "misfits," but I prefer to think of us as the "outstanding ones": the ones who stand out from the crowd. :)

[*] And the Atrium and IMFF.NET.
Thanks for all the fish.

That's, I think, pretty close. The "mixed bag" we have here tends to consist of blokes who wear "unbirfucated garments" (of whatever ilk) as blokes; we feel no need to coin a feminine name for ourselves because we accept, and celebrate, who we are; we feel no need to try to "pass" for the same reason -- we're comfortable with who we are as ourselves. We're, I suspect, fairly unique as a community; we don't fit in with "conventional" cross-dressers and we don't fit with the "trans-" anything community -- we're blokes in skirts and kilts -- nothing more, nothing less.

By the by, Bill, what's the object you're holding in your avatar? It looks like a musical instrument of some sort, but there's not enough detail for me to identify it.

In any event, welcome!

It's a Celtic harp that I play at Renaissance faires.

Welcome aboard. I think you will do well here for the very reason that crfriend writes:

Self-acceptance and the courage to truly be one's own person. We can all benefit from that.
