Interesting and well thoughtout write up:
Someone referred me to this site as well as giving me this link http://graffiti.virgin.net/sally.watson ... chieve.htm figured some of you all might want to check it out. It is very well written and worked wonders. I am incredibly glad I found this site as I jsut dont fit in on most of the other "cross-dresser" sites as I am simply a guy in a skirt.

Welcome aboard USNguy. I'm glad you find this little corner of the world an interesting and inviting place; I think you'll find you've run into an interesting cast of characters.
Thanks for the interesting read with that link. I'll second Rogon's concern about the repeated use of the term "crossdresser"; that's a bit backward because of all the "baggage" that comes with it. It may also explain, somewhat, why you don't "fit" in with the various "crossdressing" sites on the 'Net.
This isn't a place for "crossdressers" in the stereotypical use of the term; this is more of a spot for blokes who make use of non-traditional (in a western sense) garments (e.g. skirts) in a functional masculine way. I don't think that any of us feel the need to "pass", but all of us are fairly passionate about gaining the freedom to wear what we want where we want, and to do so without backlash or other problems. Generally, the wisdom here is that it's perfectly feasible to wear a skirted garment on a day-to-day basis and not get hassled over it; too, the collective advice seems to be, "just do it."

I also welcome you to our site....That said, I have a request. Please don't refer to this site as a "crossdressers site" which it is not. No one here as far as I know in the 3 years I've been a member tries to "pass" as a woman. Mostly we just enjoy the freedom and comfort of skirted garments or M.U.G.s or Male Unbifurcated Garments. Only the most illiterate in my life still refer to a masculine looking man in a skirt as either a "crossdresser" or "gay". Some here are gay, that lifestyle has even more acceptance now than a "bloke in a skirt" does. Thanks Sir, and please enjoy our company.USNGuy wrote:I just dont fit in on most of the other "cross-dresser" sites as I am simply a guy in a skirt.

I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Oh, my goodness!!! I never realised how far removed 'cross-dressers' were from the (vast majority, if not all) contributers on this site! It only goes to re-inforce the views expressed recently on another thread. If I understand correctly from the link, 'cross-dressing' is all about wearing(specifically?) women's clothes. Not wearing (say) a skirt, because it just happens to be 'more comfortable' than tr*users? I've twice been recommended to wear a skirt (for medical conditions) rather than suffer problems exacerbated by the dreaded tr*user! At no time was 'cross-dressing' mentioned! And why not suggest a Kilt (macho menswear)? Perceived cost, I expect!
'Cross-dressers' & 'fetish folk' don't seem to stay here too long. Not that their views (from a fashion freedom perspective) aren't valid, they just don't 'fit in'.
On the other side of the coin, the Kilt 'prima-donnas' have mostly run away to the safety of their perceived 'heritage' sites, squealing, "My Kilt's not a skirt!" Well, my Kilts (trad or otherwise) are skirts - fact - period - so what? My denim skirts all (happen to) fasten 'left over right' - so what? I've others that have no obvious 'gender affiliation'. They're just my clothes. I don't need (or do) wigs, make-up, ear-rings, high-heels or whatever - the 'cross-dressers' can keep 'em!
Enjoy the 'real' freedom here!

I agree totally! How often do you hear that term when females are involved? It seems like cross-dressing is only used for males and it’s getting to the point where males are labeled cross-dressers no matter what they wear.Rogon wrote:Thanks for the link and welcome aboard. The only concern I have about Mr. Holmes' article is that he continually uses the term 'cross dresser'. Hopefully, in a more enlighten world, we can stop using the term altogether. It's just fashion, nothing more, nothing less.

I recall about 3-4 years ago one of my female cousins wore a tie frequently, as she likes rock music and Avril Lavigne made that popular for girls around that time.
another thing I've noticed for a while, in hiphop culture. a good number of girls dress similarly to the fellas: white t-shirt, jeans, white sneakers or something to that effect with the occassional baseball hat, and you can add a puffy coat in winter. generally, I see em acting kind of like the fellas too, but generally they still present themselves as female (long hair, purses, lipstick, clothes look similar to the guys but actually fit).
The only ones I've seen, say, adopt a male name are those hyper-macho tomboys they occassionally have on the Maury Povich show*, who invariably look and act like an exaggerated caricature of a teenage boy (oversized hoodie, oversized baseball hat, oversized jeans, Nikes, swears a lot, add 10 buckets of macho...did I miss anything?

*for the non-US folks here, think "Jerry Springer" without the fighting. similar trash, the usual topics are "who's the baby's daddy?" and "are you cheating on me?"

Does anyone remember the fad for girls in the eighties where they would wear men’s boxer shorts as shorts? I wonder how it would have gone over if we would have worn women’s underwear as shorts. Would we have been kicked out of stores, etc?
(Like I don’t already know the answer to that)

Lar: personally, not really. The 80s were one big blur to me, as I was only born in '83. About the only things I really remember were Michael Jackson videos, those slip-on shoes that came back in style recently, and a couple painter-style caps I wore for some reason, though the latter was more early 90s (which is probably why those hats haven't come back in style yet, not that I'm complaining)
if we wore women's underwear as shorts, it wouldn't go over now, never mind 1983
shoot, I'm pretty sure wearing our own underwear as shorts would get us kicked out of stores and the like :sarcastic:
