Hello all

Post by Jerseyman »

I just wanted to introduce my self.I am from new jersey U.s.a.and I have been skirting/kilting for about 2 years now.I wear a kilt when I go out and wear skirts in house.I also wear hose due to leg issues.I enjoy wearing kilts and am happy to have found a site that is not a crossdressers site.I have nothing against them.they are people too and deserve respect.but I am not looking for a sex thing nor do I wish to change who I am.My fiance Is ok with me wearing a skirt.at first she got scared and thought I wanted to be a woman.but I told her I just wanted skirts to wear around the house.as they are more comfortable.I wish I could wear them out side but i would not dare try it were i live.I f I do go out I were my kilt.as It is more acepted.I do belive that sertain skirts a man can wear and others just look bad.i try to wear a skirt that fits and is not to tight. On question I do have is why are some of the transvestites that I have talked to online so Uptight about men wearing skirts?

Welcome to the Cafe! Your question has it's own answer...men wearing skirts. Masculinity and skirts IMO are not what they want to see become the norm. Try wearing a skirt somewhere else, like an upscale mall or food store away from where you live. What reactions you get can gauge which skirts could be acceptable in your area.

Greetings from the UK! binx is absolutely spot on. Transvestites (or 'trannies' as they tend to be called here) wish to emulate their own personal 'vision' of what a woman should look like (usually on a part-time basis), and, in common with a large percentage of 'Joe Public', regard skirts as ' women only' garments. Indeed, if anyone were to become (verbally) aggressive about males adopting (masculine-styled) skirts as normal menswear, 'tis they. I can only assume it offends their sensibilities that some bloke can just chuck on a (say, knee length denim) skirt and go about his normal life, while they (obviously deriving great pleasure from) 'have to' go about the labourious process of preparation (make-up, 'tucking', close-shaving, jewellery, etc.) to be followed by dressing in flimsy (& lacy?) underwear, and 'ultra-feminine' dresses/skirts.

Actually to answer your question to the best of my ability is to say that we, (blokes in skirts) probably don't really know the answer as we are not transvestites. I think you'd have to ask an actual transvestite to get the probably correct answer. :whiteflag
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

I've been skirted part time since 1972 and full time since 2005. http://skirts4men.myfreeforum.org/

Right on. How can a non Transvestite know what a Transvestite thinks? Furthermore, how can we assume that they all think the same way? Logic tells ur that they don't.

Cheers
The worm that destroys you is the temptation to agree with your critics in order to get their approval.

Transvestites and Transexuals are true a very diverse group and are best thought of on a continum. And their objections to our position are as many and varied as any male or females who do not fit broadly into one of these two categories. After all they are not interested in changing/pushing social norms rather using the norms that currently exist to perpetuate an alternate identity.

Simplified though people who fit into these categories see gender and sexuality as polar bodies, you are either male or female and the gender roles for each sex must be strictly adhered to. Put more simply, if it becomes socially acceptable for males to wear skirts or even make-up, heels and dresses as men then we are threatening the very social norms which sustain their identity. How would you pretend to be female if both sexes dressed the same??

Mmnn. I take it that you don't have/see many Transvestites in the USA/Canada? In Nottingham, in particular, there is a thriving TV scene (well, on Thu, Fri & Sat evenings, anyway!). There is also a large homosexual community there, some of whom we've known for several years. I tend to believe them when they tell us about tensions between the TVs & themselves, especially if any of them are in 'Drag' (i.e., parodying women) as some (but not our friends!) do. The impression (as well as the verbiage!) they get is that (most of) the TVs regard wearing skirts as their exclusive right!

Apart from such observations, the subject (TV) has been covered in some depth over a number of years in television programmes. There is evidently much interest (or more correctly, curiosity!) about TVs in the UK.

I'm quite surprised it is as accepted as it is in Nottingham, bearing in mind the reputation (in the UK) the city has for gratuitous violence, but perhaps that is down to numbers & keeping to the city centre? I suppose, if transported to the USA, Nottingham would be regarded as a sleepy suburb as far as violence goes (reading between the lines of posts both here and elsewhere) and the way the USA depicts itself in many of the films shown here?

That is it exactly, what is a transvestite left to wear if everything is considered unisex? The only attire exclusively female is a naked body and that's something not as easily pulled off. :shifty:
