It it Easy to Do Kilt Waist Alterations?

Post by skirttron »

I am doing my darndest to lose some weight, which with any luck will mean my 40-inch waist kilts will no longer fit. Does anyone know if kilt waistbands are easy to alter (both traditional and modern kilts)?

Here's hoping anyway.

Neither type of kilt are easy to alter, but traditional kilts require significantly more know-how. You can get by for a few inches (2 or 3) of waist reduction by replacing the existing closure system with sewn-in velcro strips. I have made two heavyweight traditional kilts using velcro. They Always fit perfectly.

Cheers,

Depending on where you got the kilt from originally, the original manufacturer might be willing to alter the waistband for you for a price. Since many of the modern kilt makers (at least here in the US) are still pretty much small outfits, they should be able to do a custom job for you.
