Not Exactly Good Publicity

Skip, have you heard anything about this?

Fla. man in women's bathing suit arrested
May 30, 2006

KEY WEST, Fla. --A man wearing a purple women's bathing suit and carrying a flare gun was arrested after he told a bartender he was going to "get rid of all the dirt bags in Key West," authorities said.

Jeffrey C. Anderson, 55, was charged with carrying a concealed firearm Monday after he brandished the flare gun, which was under a skirt he was wearing, Key West police spokeswoman Christie Phillips said.

The bartender, who was not identified, was working in the downstairs bar of The Bull and Whistle, a popular Key West watering hole located on Duval Street.

"She reported she had seen a man, later identified as Anderson, dancing in the street showing tourists his private parts, and asking people for money when they took his picture," the news release said.

The bartender said Anderson then approached her, telling her he was going to get rid of the city's "dirt bags" before displaying the gun, police said.

Police quickly located Anderson and found an orange 12-gauge flare gun in his possession, Phillips said. He was transported to the Monroe County detention center. It was not clear if he had a lawyer.

I don't think that has anything to do with the skirted bathing suit. It has to do with threats, possession of a deadly weapon, public genital exposure and other crimes. I didn't see this article, I don't get the Key West Citizen newspaper, as Key West is 60 miles to the west of where I live. The Key West TV station only broadcasts locally to Key West also, however some newsworthy posts are sent to the major TV stations etc. They get crazies in Key West all the time. It's like "normal" there. That's why I stay far away from that town. They have a "Fantasy Fest" festival there every year which brings crazies from all over the world to Key West, some don't leave afterwards... :naughty:

Yes, it is unfortunate that he was wearing that. I can't see it affecting me 60 miles away any more than a murder in NY City affects those that live in upstate NY or New Jersey over 60 miles away.

anyway, it could have been a lot worse if he'd been wearing jeans. he could have hid an arsenal! with a skirt, the arresting officer's job is made much easier. one flip, and he's done.

if anything, they should be encouraging the crims to wear them, and save everyone some time and trouble!

What's the bad publicity? Nutters come in all different shapes, sizes and clothing preferences. If the nutter was wearing pants would all the guys flock to wearing skirts so as not to be identified with him? (Hey that's a good line... Hitler, Mussulini, Jack the Ripper, Sadam Housain all wore pants so I am wearing a skirt to differentiate myself from the crazies wearing weird clothes).

I am just curious how he could fit a woman's bathing suit anyway. Maybe the bottom would fit (albeit snuggly) but unless he was a very very skinny man he would not fit a woman's top (unless he padded himself out too).

Yes, he was arrested for the right reasons --- he was doing dangerous things. But what irks me is that this story attracted nationwide attention for the wrong reasons --- his choice of clothing while acting nutty. Just look at the headline. Heck, this article made the top emailed list at Bosotn Globe for a day.

Thus, I say that this is bad publicity --- because of the way it's reported.

You're right about that.

Davereporter: Unless he was shaped like a woman, round hips, buttocks and thighs and padded up top, he would look like just what he was, another Key West Oddball that went over the line publicly. Actually, I'm surprised it got so far. That kind of sh*t happens in Key West on a daily regimen.

For any member that reads this and is thinking about a trip to Key West, be sure to go to the "Sunset Celebration" every evening at Mallory Square at the end of Duval Street. More oddballs than you can shake a stick at all the time there. There's "Iguana Man" has about 300 iguanas crawling all over him and his camper he lives in. His skin is rough and wrinkly like an Iguana himself. Then there's Mr. Royal Stewart, a bagpiper that pipes out of tune for hours on end daily. Another MUG wearer that is not the best thing for our cause. At least he's not dangerous, just has no ear for music. The transient oddballs are different every evening. Great tourist stop for one time. After that it gets old quick.

probably when women started wearing pants, the media seized on the exact same thing. woman in pants arrested for shoplifting. woman in pants has affair.

what can you do? we're stuck on this planet with 5bn illogical people.
