Surely, it's easy enough just to unclip your sporran when you get in the car and put it back on when you arrive at your destination, isn't it? As for seatbelts, my eldest son, partner & their daughter wouldn't be alive/intact today if they hadn't 'belted-up'! :tombstone:
skirttron wrote:Since they were mostly invented before the cellphone, and even credit cards, and 14th century highland warriors rarely wore glasses, they do not always have the required carrying capacity.
Thank goodness mobile phones are becoming more & more compact! I do wish they'd make them with 'modern' compartments, though.... I didn't think sporrans were 'invented' until as late as the 18th (or even 19th century)!
skirttron wrote:Their bumping against you can be irritating, too, but they have their uses.
What I cannot stand, are those flipping tassles 'drumming' as you walk. I seem to remember Hamish(?) suggesting "blu-tack" as a remedy. Nine times out of ten, I tend to just use a plain fronted sporran.

Modern Sporran

Post by ChrisM »

I use a product that was in fact marketed as a ladies' wallet or handbag, but it makes an excellent sporran, and it has credit card slots, a drivers license window, and a cell phone pocket.

The wallet hangs from a chain around my waist, looks like a sporran, and has all the desired 21c features.

Sporrans and seat belts...

Post by Kilted_John »

Better idea. Run the lap belt portion of the seat belt underneath the sporran. After 4 years of wearing traditional kilt, I've learned to do this with a good amount of success. My problem is if I have a bunch of stuff in it, then the sporran gets big enough that it almost touches the steering wheel, especially if I'm wearing my MacKenzie military-weight 9-yarder. Then things get a bit unruly.

With respect to seat belt usage, I've seen what happens when you're not wearing one. It isn't worth the risk to not wear the belt. So, run the lap belt under the sporran and buckle up...

Before we get heavily involved in the pros and cons of 'tucking' what do the girls think? When they see a man in a tight skirt - do they want to see a willy bulge or not?

Damfino

Post by Since1982 »

Damfino, at 64 and overweight, most young or even middle aged "girls" don't give me a 2nd look anyway. Plus I'm so horrified at the idea of unsafe sex giving me a case of AIDS that I think I'll just be happy I have a safe SO and not worry about what the "girls" think.

I have a baseball cap that came with the non-word "Damfino" on the front. It's there just in case anyone asks me a question I either don't know the answer to or don't want to be bothered answering. :)

Me012247 and tight skirts

Post by Since1982 »

The denim skirt you're wearing in your avatar qualifies as a tight skirt unless there's a huge lot of loose material taped to the back that we can't see or if you have a back vent/slit that goes from the hem to above your knees. Otherwise, with that straight skirt, running at speed would be nearly as impossible as climbing up into an 18 wheeler. To qualify as a tight skirt, a skirt doesn't have to be a hobble skirt. Just either tight at the waist, close at the knees or close at the hem like the one in your avatar appears to be. :):cheer: :shake:

Ex girl friend said to me: Are you trying to pass as a girl? No? Your a male? Yes? I EXPECT to see a bulge or feel something when in a tight embrace. If I don't I wonder what's up.

After that I no longer gave "it" a second thought.

Swings and roundabouts with short skirts, long skirts, knickers or knickerless. what ever you feel comfortable with AND keep you out of jail.

Welcome!

Problem is that where I am, the tighter skirts are cheaper.
There are hundreds of roomy, loose-fitting skirts at the second-hand stores, like Goodwill. The local thrift shop just had a sale on skirts for $3 apiece! I once bought a bunch for a dollar each, and just donated the ones that didn't fit/look good to another store. Bringing along a tape-measure helps, if you don't want to try them on there.

Hi Binx,

That's where I bought my 4 skirts. Anywhere from $3-5 apiece! At first I was nervous about trying them on but that didn't stop me. I just went ahead, tried them on, and bought them. No problems at all...

I don't see what all the fuss is really, we're men, and we have stuff up front, and it's gonna show a little. Women have breasts, and they dont hafta hide their breasts, so why do us guys need to conceal our anitomical differences. Now, with that being said, I dont' go out of my way to blalantly make it bigger and more noticable, but if I show a bulge in any article of clothing, I dont' worry about it at all, it's just part of being a man

Really, though, what ususally ends up happening with me is that I go regimental in skirts most of the time. Nothing ever really shows. My bits all hang loose down between my legs. If I wear briefs or boxerbriefs, any underwear with support, which I rarely do (sorta defeats the purpose of wearing a skirt) they'll push everything up front and out. So, if it really concerns you, just hang it all loose and relax

Exactly! Hey Shane, has anyone complained? Don't we guys sometimes stare at women's breasts? Women look at our skirts, we look at their breasts...it's nature. Be proud of what you've got.

Depends on how well I know the guy. ;) Actually, it is more situational and degree of exposure. When I can count a man's piercings in a glance we'd better not be chatting at a child's birthday party.

If a man tucks for his own taste that is fine but I'd hate to think some guys do it for a sense of propriety. The breast analogy is apt, men are expected to have a penis, the degree of emphasis just depends on the occasion. The look of a bulge in tight jeans is something that people are generally okay with so it only seems fair to have the same apply to skirts.
