Larger Skirts - A Tip

Post by BrianW »

Hi All,

Long time lurker here, first post! I wanted to share a tip.

I, like a few in their 40s, have a bit of a pot belly. I have a 44" waist, and my hips are also 44" ish. Buying kilts in this size is not a problem, but buying skirts is -- mainly because I have to select from women's sizes. There are very few women's skirts around that will fit that. The hips are not a problem, but the waist is.

If there are skirts around with a 44" waist, they'd have a 50+" hip target size, and look rediculous on me.

I stumbled across an XL materity skirt the other day. The XL sizing handles my hips correct, and the elastic waist band handles my pot belly nicely. It has instantly become my most comfortable skirt.

I generally find a bit of a problem having skirts (and pants) falling down, as I don't have enough of a narrow waist to hang them on. I guess pregnant women have a similar problem, and so the maternity skirts are designed to address the precise problem I have also.

They only problem with maternity skirts is that they are often not the most inspiring designs -- but if you find one you like, it can be a GREAT solution.

Brian.

large skirts for BrianW

I buy in online catalogs and mailed to my house catalogs. This is my favorite skirt and where I buy it. It's quite inexpensive and comes in 2 materials, denim and twill. I far out and away prefer the twill. I bought one in denim, didn't like it and sent it back. Returns are no problem, things can be sent back via UPS for a flat rate of $4.40 from anywhere in the USA.

If you decide to buy one or more, let me know and I'll give you a code number that will get you free shipping one time.

This model is an A-line skirt with a high back vent for easy walking, it looks like a straight skirt in the picture but it's not. I like straight skirts better so I have to alter every one I buy to make them straight. I don't mind tho, at $16.99 each and a $2.00 discount each if you buy 2 or more I'm not sure you can beat the price for a NEW skirt.

Also, I don't know how tall you are, but I think all their models are well over 6 feet tall. I buy in the "petite" length and they fall to the high end of my calf. They SAY that petite is for people 4'11" to 5'3" but these skirts on a person that height would drag on the ground. I'm 6'1" and they fit me just perfectly. The "average" length goes to my ankles and I cringe to think how I could wear their "tall" length.

I once heard a woman say that there will be true equality of the sexes when men give birth. The comeback, which I thought of later :( would have been "... and women father them!"

So Brian, if the skirt fits, wear it :) and welcome to Tom's.

I used to have that problem when I was young, every time someone would say something yearning for a comeback I'd be mute, not knowing what to say and an hour later would come up with the perfect answer. Sooooo I memorized all the comebacks and now, if someone says anything I have heard before the comeback is right on the tip of my tongue. LOL :)

Roaman's is a good place too. I get the elastic waists, and stay up nicely.

Roamans

Post by Since1982 »

I get the Roamans catalog sent to me without me ever asking for it. I just pitch it in the round file cause their stuff is way too pricey for me. Identical skirts at Roamans and Lane Bryant are about $40 difference in price. Made at the same factory in Pakistan too. I think both firms are owned by the same conglomerate. I think they also own Just My Size, The Woman Within and Kingsize.com which is a plus sizes catalog for men. I get all of these catalogs without ever requesting them probably because their parent company shares information with it's affiliates. They send that to me also. Roamans prices are on a line with most of the dedicated manufacturers of "Men's Skirts". But, unlike the Men's skirt manufacturers all the companies under the main conglomerate buy from the same sweatshops in the Middle East.

I buy from them, at least the less expensive ones because I can't afford to pay the higher prices that folks that have to farm out the sewing work to professional seamstresses in the US must charge to make a well earned profit. :shake: :wall: :stir:
