Custmers come to my office, and , unfortunately , the majority of them are with conservative thinking. I run a small translation/interpreting company together with a partner, another translator/interpreter. We're often called to interpret before the Court, at police stations, in different Government institututions. So, we have to be always ready to visit an official place. They just call you on the phone and say "...o'clock at the Supreme Court! English/Bulgarian!" That;'s it. Being in a caftan you will not be admitted to court hearings. LOL:) Althought the judges usually wear...gowns:)
What about dress code, where caftans are a must, it would be great. Imagine people, dressed in beautiful embroidered caftans everywhere- at the offices, in the Parliament, in all Government Departments and so on:)
In some African countries grand bubu substitutes tuxedo in their official protocol. So, you can see their Presidents or Secretaries of State in grand boubous at official meetings. Once I interpreted on a conference, where the delegation from Mali were all in grand boubous.

conservative thinking to me translates into narrow minded thinking
but I know what you mean there are lot of narrow minded people around
and yes that would be cool a place were everyone is wearing kaftans or

I saw a chap wearing a kaftan yesterday, in Gretna Green. The only reason I spotted him was that being kilted I was people watching in the hope of seeing more men in unbifurcated garments. He didn't stand out from the crowd in the way that a man in a shorter skirt type garment would have done. He was with a lady who was dressed in an Indian style sari and they looked great together.

Gretna Green is just inside the Scottish Border, about nine miles north of Carlisle. Famous for weddings as historically young couples would run away from home in England and get married at Gretna Green where in Scotland the legal age for marriage is/was 16. Though nowadays very touristy and commercialised and full of retail outlets. I wore my Dark Island kilt all day. Had some paperwork to attend to in the morning at Carlisle Airport for a planned trip then took my wife for lunch at Gretna Green where we spent an afternoon going round the shops then we went into Carlisle city centre at night to attend a live ice show which was quite spectacular. The show included some goth scenes with ice skater dancers in goth costumes. One of the male dancers was kitted out in a knee length black skirt with purple petticoat and black tights. Although I think petticoats on men can look rather silly, somehow in the context of the show this outfit seemed to work well with ice skates on stage.

OK. I was just wondering where that place was as being in the U.S.A. I don't know were a lot of places that are talked about here are.
