Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.

Why do I love wearing what seems a relatively impractical garment?
I think that Skirtonians (people who like and enjoy wearing skirts) may find it fun to wear skirts that others might not. Sometimes designs that might be considered rather impractical.
But, perhaps, the impractical aspects could be part of the fun
Enjoying a freedom from the drive for practicality?
Men are trapped in the notion (both from society and themselves) that their clothing either has to be practical or traditional. Women on the other hand are encouraged to use clothing for self expression and to have fun.
Because of this, as men slowly climb out of this rut we're in, things like athletic clothing and kilts are gaining acceptance while other things lag behind.
I think that I look my best in pencil skirts. The straight lines look better on my male form, I think.
Think of Al from Happy Days. He always wore a straight apron. It fit him. I always liked how I looked in an apron, when I worked in a restaurant. That was before I stopped repressing my skirting interests.
Think of the Old Spice guy. He always wore a towel around him. He was considered sexy.
Straight lines work! Pencil skirts for the win!

Straight lines are a good, clean look for men. Kilts also have those straight lines (more of them!) while also allowing for that practical movement. Straight skirts become more practical in windy conditions. Ultimately, most designs have their place.
