Shopping trip

Today I nipped out at lunchtime to the local mall to check out the latest dresses. I wore a camel midi sheath dress with a back zip and my lovely Topshop peep toe platform
Stiletto shoe boots with 6.3” heels. As always, stepping out the car and walking in the dress and heels felt amazing.

When I was in the mall I got laughed at by a couple of what I think were American tourists. It’s the first time in all my years of skirting that has ever happened. It probably says more about their culture to be honest and it’s their problem, not mine. Didn’t bother me as I just carried on feeling fabulous. I went into AllSaints and one of the assistants told me she loved my heels! Tried on a couple of dresses and bought one. Not a bad trip out.

Glad to hear that you were unfazed by the laughter. I think the idea of ridicule is probably what potential MIS worry about most when considering stepping out in public. I may have experienced the same a time or two myself. I usually just chalk it up to my being a little self-conscious, but I may have been the butt of a joke or two along the way. So what, I say. Only physical violence is of any concern to me now, and nothing has come close to that level yet.

I went to Whole Foods yesterday, wearing a (dressy) red t-shirt and pleated grey plaid skirt. As I was walking towards the door, a woman approached from the opposite direction and she gave me a smile. I couldn't quite tell if it was LOL smile or just a happy smile - so I read it as a happy one. She held the door open for me (she arrived at it first) and while I accepted it I let her go first at the amazon return counter. Maybe 5-years ago me would have worried about this encounter, today Im unfazed either way.

It’s good reading other MIS experiences. As I’ve reported on the SC forum before I’ve had quite a few young females (at a guess early 20s to mid 30s) admire my outfits and give me compliments which is a great experience and I feel flattered. However, just recently I’ve had negative reactions from a middle aged man who called me a tranny and a few days later a group of men in a car who shouted “Love the outfit!”then they laughed and then men in a work van who sniggered at me and gave me a wolf whistle.

As is often the case DrF groups of "Lads" somehow feel extra bravado when they know their intended recipient is unable to respond but really all they do is make themselves look unbelievably ignorant. This type of comment is by no means limited to MIS as I saw on the telly this lunchtime that it is now such an issue that Police are doing a crackdown on those types of comment being served to female joggers on a daily basis.

No way will those negative comments from those idiot men put me off. I love the look and style of skirts and other “feminine” clothes and the comfort I get from wearing them. To be honest I just laugh off those comments and besides I’ve had really nice and flattering comments of what I wear from the opposite sex since wearing skirts, dresses and tights which is a confidence boost for me.

I absolutely agree with you. I’ve had some wonderful comments and conversations with women! I was recently out in a sleeveless black leather midi dress with high heeled boots. A shop assistant came over to me and just said “you look incredible”. That felt amazing. We then had a conversation about what I was wearing and why men should feel as if they can wear anything they like. She asked how I handled heels which was quite amusing. The idiots don’t bother me, I just laugh it off.

It used to be SO scary to go shopping for such clothing when I was dressed in menswear.
That first time I went while dressed in a skirt was quite difficult, emotionally. But, I did it! I did not have to reveal that I was shopping for myself. The ladies in the store seemingly did not understand why I was so afraid. They ended up hanging out with me and talking to me. One lady said that she would prefer it if her husband dressed like me instead of what he does. She did not elaborate.

Completely agree with you here Joey!
Compared to what you tend to find over in the menswear section, really enjoy the colour and choice available on the other side of the aisle.
Yet to go shopping in a dress (something I would like to try out this year) but have done so many times in a skirt and got to the point where I feel quite relaxed doing so.
