In Honour of Carl.

Post by STEVIE »

Sad though we are at this time of Carl's passing.
Let us not forget that he has also left us as custodians of The Skirt Cafe.
I am perfectly sure that his wish will be for us to continue with all the principals that he worked so hard to uphold in his own lifetime.
All the postings, ideas, photos and, even arguments to go on.
Perhaps, more strongly and with more purpose too.
Steve.

In my first post I told a bit about myself and Carl told me I was in the right place. Since then I have had many encounters with Carl. He had strong opinions which very often differed from mine (which is odd because I'm right, of course 😉). He sniffed out Scotl has a bot and exposed the operator. He didn't stop Scotl he just renamed him as a chatbot which I thought was quite clever.

Perhaps other posters could contribute their memories of Carl here. People only really die when nobody says their name anymore.

Great thinking BM, I had forgotten "Scot the Bot", as some folks behind the scenes christened him.
Carl had strong opinions, but he also had great respect for those held honestly and sincerely by anyone else.
A very rare quality.

I am shocked and sadden by the news of Carl's death.

He was vey generous, helpful, and kind to allow me to join the cafe and I shall be forever grateful.

I hope his legacy will partly be that this Cafe goes from strength to strength and supports current and future MIS.

It's sad news. Condolences to all his loved ones.
And it's a pity that after Carl's departure to the Other Side of Being, his profile (memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=515) on this website also disappeared - I think it should have been preserved in his memory.
Everyone should be honest and prudent: to keep promises and, on principle, never to promise anything to anyone.
Sorry for my English. I try not to make spelling mistakes, but for this reason my writing is very slow.

I wonder whether there is a part of the software that can do that. Just leaving it would be odd when Carl's age would keep increasing each year.

All of Carl's threads and 14,000+ posts are still part of the cafe, so he will live on for many years.
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...

As a security measure, Mike has secured Carl's account against any and all hackers.

Carl was an extraordinarily competent and vigilant computer system administrator. Leaving his account unattended with administrator privileges would have left this community, that he cared so much about, at risk. I am confident that he would have urged us to mitigate that risk by deactivating his account. His posts and other contributions have not been removed. His login account has been locked to prevent a disgruntled malicious hacker from potentially causing damage.
