Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. Found the William and Lauren website.
I only found one (1) skirt and it held an eye-watering price tag.

The estimate I saw was $300 for a custom skirt.
Given the cost of fabric, and the amount of time it takes to measure the person, make a pattern, buy the fabric, cut the fabric, and sew the garment, this price is very fair. People need to be paid and labour costs in the UK / US add up very quickly,
If you tried learning how to sew one yourself, then you'd quickly understand.
I understand that traditional kilts can be quite expensive.
If a man has a strong interest in a particular design-which is otherwise unavailable-and is willing to pay a premium, I can imagine a man paying for a single example.
I'm thinking of trying this place soon, they make them custom to your measurements: https://seamsfriendly.com/collections/skirts
My waist/hip ratio is definitely not that same as a typical woman.

It will be interesting to see how the custom fitted skirt works on you. Keep us posted and pictures of the result would be a bonus.

Looking at the website I was pleasantly surprised at the pricing for something that is supposedly custom made and free delivery too (except customs duty) plus they even provide a contact number which suggests the company is based in India so hopefully prices will be similar wherever you are.
As Mouse says we'd love to know how you get on with it.

They are based in India. I think they also have an Etsy shop by the same name. Once I figure out what the tariffs might be (if they don't keep getting changed on a weekly basis) I'm going to order a few skirts and will report back here.
Just a quick update, I ordered a few skirts to try out. They ship to the USA with DHL and the tariffs pre-paid / included in the price so that helped. My weight is (hopefully) trending down after some big life stress for the last year so I kept it to a small order to see how it goes. They contacted me by email to ask if I wanted customization to my body measurements for free and offered a discount if I wanted to add anything to my order before it shipped.
I purposely picked a few that don't fit closely enough to where my hip measurement is significant, just to see how I feel about the quality. I'm cognizant about the fact that a women's hip circumference generally bulges in different places than a man's and I figured I'd wait and see before discussing non-equilateral Reuleaux triangles with a seamstress.
I'll post photos and a review when I get the skirts in a few weeks.
So I got my order from SF a few days ago, I haven't been home to pick up the parcel until today. The order arrived within a few days of when they said it would, by US mail, and was nicely packed with a note and a sewn tote bag in the box that contained the skirts.
Because my weight is fluctuating right now (downward!), I ordered two skirts in the standard size for a 39" waist and my actual height. I didn't bother with the hip measurements etc, although they offered to customize them however I wanted and kept in contact with me while the order was being made and shipped.
One skirt was brown cotton, knee length, with elastic in the waist. They lined it with an extra layer of the same fabric for more body and to make it more opaque.
The other skirt was navy blue cotton flax, pleated, knee length, with button waist closure and a side zipper.
Both skirts fit perfectly, and were not tight around the front area so not showing any bulge or anything. I'm not an expert at such things but the stitching seemed well made and I didn't see any random loose threads or anything. The length was ok, maybe a bit longer than I consider knee length, but of course I did not give them an exact length to use and just let them guess so I can't complain about that at all. Both skirts also had decent sized pockets and not those tiny "girl pockets" that you can barely fit your hands into. Between the fabric and the way the skirts are cut, I think they will be nice for spring and summer here in Florida and be a little dressier than the skirts I usually wear.
Once my waistline gets down to a better size I would not hesitate to order from them again, and perhaps try to see what they can do to accommodate my actual hip size but not fit too closely in front.
This is an interesting project and I am pleased that the skirts are matching up to what you hoped for. It will be interesting when you have had chance to wear them a bit in a few outfits.
