Boy-Skirts for One, Boy-Skirts for All

Post by mr seamstress »

Here is another great article advocating for men in skirts.

https://articlesofinterest.substack.com ... skirts-for

There is no emphasis about Bad Bunny, Harry Styles or others in this article.
Hopi kilt? In this article has sub links including about the Hopi kilt. Gives some history about men in skirts. I found this article interesting with sub links.

The end of the article and oh so very true.

"So, no. I don’t think the (re-)emergence of the boy-skirt is some panacea for patriarchy or oppressive gender roles. I don’t put too much stock in Harry Styles or Bad Bunny donning a skirt for a paparazzo's benefit. I think there’s something to be said about the skirts I encounter as I go about my devastatingly unremarkable day. The skirts worn by people with so much more to lose, more than the skirts at the center of celebrity spectacle, might actually portend a future where the phrase “boy-skirt” is obsolete, along with all the -isms and -phobias that went with it. That one day we all just wear what we want, and still get to be who we are."

We have a dream!

Looked at several different images of the Hopi "kilt"; appears to be a simple wrap skirt. More of a Hopi sarong.

I have to wonder if MIS in these different cultures meant one, or at most, a few traditional designs.

I agree, Grok, it's a wrap with a belt/tie. Anthropologically it'd be a skirt or an apron. I wonder about the origins of calling it a kilt?

In the Western world outside of Great Britain, any skirt worn by a man is often incorrectly called a kilt. People just can't get it through their heads that most clothing is gender-neutral.
A full time skirt wearer since 2020.
