"Man" Bags?

Discussion of fashion elements and looks that are traditionally considered somewhat "femme" but are presented in a masculine context. This is NOT about transvestism or crossdressing.

I use it all the time now, even when my skirt has pockets. When I started wearing skirts, my thought was: "why didn't I try this sooner?". Now the same thing happened with the bag, it's so convenient, and no more bulky pockets.
It is a nice functional bag but is a little too techno and masculine for my liking since I like more feminine designs in purses. If I purchases this purse because it is very functional, I would go with the pink or purple color for a more feminine look.

I had TWO of the best bags ever made. They were made by Wilson Leather Goods.
Each bag lasted about 10-12 years, with daily use. They're no longer available  and
can't get a pic of them. The closest I've found is a men's cross-body bag on Walmart.
I 'carry' it as either a shoulder bag or cross-body bag, depending on my location and mood :D

I've had to include the use of a wallet as the 'Man Bag' doesn't have dedicated spaces for ID or bank cards.
No coin purse, either.

It's a bit more 'trouble' than my original choice but, a person must work with what is available :D

J. Wilson London bags are available on amazon dot co dot uk. Here is a link to the store on amazon dot co dot uk.

Folks in the UK, like me, can buy items off amazon dot com, from the USA, though not all sellers will ship to the UK.
I believe that folks in the USA can buy items off amazon dot co dot uk, in the same way.
If the seller doesn't ship to the UK then a parcel forwarding service such as Reship should be able to help.

It no longer appears to be for sale but I've been using the black variant of the "Bellroy City Pouch Plus" for a number of years now since I started wearing skirts out and about.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bellroy-City-P ... B0956SQM9F

Not a massive bag but fits my phone, keys, wallet, Airpods, Kindle and a powerbank.

The standard City Pouch is still for sale and has a similar capacity, albeit in a vertical format.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bellroy-cross- ... 098SNNSYW/

Both are what I see as neutral bags that both men and women could choose to use.

I guess I joined the club after all.

I decided it was time for something along this line, as I'm usually in my kilts that don't have pockets instead of my skirts(or trousers) that do, I have found it a pain to make sure I have a sweater/jumper/jacket with pockets when I don't want to bring my backpack along and try to match it all together.

I told my wife I bought a small bag and got a lot of sighs and her saying "yet another one?". I only have four bags/rucksacks and two of them are for hiking(55l & 75l) and one computer bag(25-30l) that has not been used for more than 12 years, the last one is my small daily 15l one I've had since I replaced the old computer one, I don't carry a computer since I started working and wanted a smaller lightweight one for my lunchbox to take on the bike when we were living in the city.
She liked it when she got to see it and understood where it all fit in, she thought I had bought another rucksack. This one is 3l, fits my keys, phone and wallet with enough spare room to fit my lunchbox.

Edit, I think she counts one I bought for our daughter as mine too, a 10l one just so she could carry some rain gear and doddads or so when we're off hiking so she doesn't have to bring a full size bag.

Nice purse. Whatever you do, please proudly call it a “PURSE” because that is what it is. The term “Manbag” and the term “Manbun” were created by marketing dweebs for men that could not ever lower themselves to wearing anything that a woman would wear. They are condescending terms that actually harm women and paint them as being inferior. When a woman uses a large backpack, does she need to call it a “WomanPack” or does she just call it a backpack? When a woman gets a very short fade haircut that is typical of men, does she just call it a “fade” or does she call it a “WomanFade”? Do you see where I am going with this? Women are not insecure weak creatures like men in this particular regard.

I recall a rather hilarious conversation at my local one evening when a local wag decided to challenge me on my laptop bag and insisted on calling it my "murse". I corrected him a couple of times, saying that, "No, that's my laptop bag." His buddies weren't having any of it and told him to knock it off since they know me and precisely how comfortable I am in my own skin.

I finally shut the whole thing down by producing from my laptop bag the laptop computer housed within, and in one fluid motion plopped the sequinned clutch I occasionally carry on the bar with the words, "That's my purse.", which elicited gales of laughter from his pals and a sheepish look from him. It was worth the price of admission that afternoon.

Swedish isn't as nuanced as English, it's just a bag(väska) here, hence the confusion with my wife. We do have a more specific word for rucksack(ryggsäck) but most bags are just bags. Unless you want to be obnoxiously specific and say something-bag(like hand bag, shoulder bag, ski bag or training bag).

I usually (always?) have a skirt with pockets but sometimes it's nice to have a space for a small notebook, face mask, hand sanitizer and other things, so I got a sling bag recently and it's working out:

I also have a larger mini backpack that can fit my kindle and a portable gaming console if I'm going to be stuck somewhere for several hours (been happening a lot lately).

It might be called a "purse" in US English, but in *real* English (!) a purse is what you put cards and money in. Generally in the UK a woman will have a purse whereas a man will have a wallet - similar function. Either would then be put in a bag like the one Seb shows or larger. "Handbag" and "cross-body bag" are unisex terms in theory, although "handbag" might be loaded towards women.

I love this story and the way that you dealt with that situation!
