Thanks guys, thats what I thought when I put them on. Leggings by their very nature ought not to be translucent otherwise they would not be able to be worn on their own.

Not all leggings are completely opaque but most are.

Re: Tights for Men
Sheertex are good and pretty robust. I’ve got a pair in 30 denier. They have a hole in the sole after about 20 wearings but that’s it - and there are no runs.
I’ve supported men’s tights over the years but I’ll not continue buying if the quality is not there.
Steve Lieberman was a pioneer in this regard with his Comfilon range back in 1999 (later Activskin). I’ve had Gerbe Satin 8 (fabulous, pricy), Adrian (flimsy), Doyeah (shiny, sizing on the small side) and of course Wolford Waist Socks back in 1999. I still have them. They are suitable for VERY cold weather (under trousers). Other manufacturers sell their hosiery as gender neutral which is fine by me. Even better if they have pics of men on their website. It’s more than just words then.
On the whole though, tights marketed to women are better quality. It’s economies of scale. Wolford and Falke are great for taller guys, and Cecilia de Rafael make sensational shiny sheer (15/20 den) tights.

Re: Tights for Men
I happened to browse through the Snag Tights website the other day with a view to adding onto an order that my wife is making. Whilst the range is mainly aimed at women, there are quite a few pictures of men modelling tights with shorts, a skirt & some dress/big smock garments.
This brand has been my go-to for many years now for comfort & durability. Definitly no problems under trousers, glad to have been wearing a pair when I had to be out & about today for an extended period.
Plus, they have a big range of colours, which is our thing!
The founder of this brand was canny enough to realise that she had a male market out there too.

Just received a belated birthday gift from a friend. Black leggings. Took them for a test drive under my red Macabi skirt. Certainly helped keep me warm. Has an advantage compared to regular trousers-no wedge of thick, stiff cloth in my crotch.

Yardstick,
There is a refreshing innocence about that statement.
Look around you, but very discretely!
From translucent to pretty much transparent there are females of all ages who feel more than able to wear such leggings with little else, over and underneath.
I have also just refreshed my supply of Snag tights, they are savvy enough to know that the "man" label is superfluous and I'd bet they have quite a high level of male customers.
Steve.

Re: Tights for Men
OK, it is me, but I used this phrase instead of saying "woman's side of the shop" or the "female section" since people get up set telling me clothes have no gender, which I agree with. I also dislike my use of "pink" as a short hand for "female" since colour also has no gender.
So how should I refer to the side of the shop where I buy most of what I wear without up setting anybody?

The only thin that made the skirt I have on a womans skirt is the size label.Mouse wrote: ↑Sun Feb 01, 2026 12:28 am

None of these solve the problem that Susie raises, when I am trying to help other members find what I have bought in a shop or website.
I am happy to use any terminology that is acceptable.

Sorry
I was offering General descriptors, not being specific about any given item.
A specific item requires a specific description. Once a description is given,
the listener is able to determine(hopefully) where the item is located.
IF they are as dense as a brick, good luck
