Pull Ons

Post by Stu »

While I mainly go for traditional denim, corduroy or canvas styles, I have lately discovered the comfort and convenience of simple, straight pull-ons in fabrics like jersey. They are super-lightweight, no zips, buttons or belts and are so quick to put on or remove. Ideal to slip on with a loose tee-shirt after a shower or when generally hanging around the house. This is the style - any thoughts?

Pull-on skirts are my favorite skirts to wear. All the ones I bought online in 2025 were of this closure. It was minis like these, for example:

Bought this little number on eBay, and I plan on buying another that's slightly smaller for my size. A really fun skirt to wear with a surprising amount of coverage, especially when sitting or running.

Indeed a bit of extra floppy fabric can make a huge difference in concealment be it sitting or running but does not aid much in bending or winds. Fun, yes. I consider most any skirt with a simple elastic or drawstring waist a 'pull on', regardless of length, fabric or cut.

I would have to say +90% of my skirts are elastic waist Pull Ons.
You can get them in a wide array of colors and patterns.

I am overweight with a big belly and because of that pull on skirts are the only skirts that fit me. I can get into a UK size 16 to 22 if it’s pull on. However, if the skirt has a zip or buttons then I have to get a UK size 26 or larger. I’ve lost count to how many times I’ve seen a skirt Ive liked and bought it because its a UK size 22 and it doesn't fit because it has a zip or buttons and felt disappointed.

I only have one that does not have some form of elastic in the waistband that is secured only by a zip. Well, I guess the Kilts don't have any elastic but we were not talking about those now. ;)

These are usually next best in comfort after a comfortable dress.

Almost any waistband of any skirt can be elasticated by the relatively simple expedient of inserting said elastic into said waistband.
Admittedly some are a tad more complicated than others but even me as a dunce sewer has achieved notable success.
Indeed, I am wearing one right now and perfectly comfortable too.
Certainly beats belt loops which I find ugly on many skirt styles.
Another advantage the garment melds to the peculiar form of my body, NB RobeHickman.

I have a few of these pull-on skirts with pockets from Halara that are a stretchy soft jersey material and very comfortable. I've seen some similar ones on Amazon and Halara in a midi length. The waistband puts almost no pressure on the mid-section and the rest is very flowy so it's like wearing nothing. 8)
