New Technologies
Re: New Technologies
On another thread it was commented that you will never know what you would have looked like if you had been born the opposite gender. We may now get a glimmer.
Re: New Technologies
Compared to my last mannequin link, this one seems to show mannequins that appear marginally more life like.
Suppose, for the sake of argument, that we finally get mannequins that are visually indistinguishable from flesh and blood women? How could we tell them apart? Go to about 21.6. You can tell, because the mannequin is wearing fancy, frilly clothes, while a real woman is probably wearing dreary athleisure.

Re: New Technologies
In regards to AI girlfriends, I am more impressed by the use of images. The animated images are more impressive than the mannequins almost by default. I am especially impressed by the photo realistic images.
You can find quite a bit of content about images on YouTube.
Which just goes to show that some technologies are becoming amazing, while other-some times hyped technologies-languish.
During the last few decades we have seen impressive results with some aspects of Information Technology (IT), and more recently with drones.
One example of IT that has not lived up expectations is Virtual Reality. First came across mention of VR in a magazine article dating back to about 1990. VR was supposed to change the world.
The version of IT I see taking off now are the AI girlfriends.

Re: New Technologies
Another IT that has not lived up to expectations-augmented reality.

Re: New Technologies
I do not know why the Americans allowed this company to be first sold to the Japanese Softbank 2017 and now in 2020 to the South Korean Hyundai Motor Group. I would have thought that this is highly useful tech which should be held by an American company?Uncle Al wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 10:10 pm From 60 Minutes - Overtime

Sorry if this is too political?

Re: New Technologies
Yes, and it is the market...Sir....but still makes you think when the USA may be buying lots of them in a green colour from the Hyundai Motor Group...

Re: New Technologies
I was unaware that Hyundai owned 80% of Boston Dynamics.
Still, the product and research is made in America.
Hyundai has opened manufacturing facilities in America, investing
in the local economy. They're not moving Boston Dynamics to Korea.
My post was about how improvements in Robotics are being achieved.
I do wish them success in forward movement and improvement in that field.
