On, "How far will we have gone?", the answer is easy. The extent of the human presence in the universe extends roughly radially from Earth to the locations of the two Voyager spacecraft. This is not going to change, likely in the next several thousand years.
Thanks to "human nature" and all that's bad about that, once again all forward motion has stalled in another Dark Age that's overtaking the majority of the population that can think and have vision -- obscured by the ignorant masses who just want to Follow the Leader and not bother to exert any force of will or thought. It's going to be "Father Knows Best" until humanity discovers how to suppress the herd mentality -- and that the way I think it deserves to go based on what I'm seeing for behaviour in certain parts of the world. If we can't (or, more likely, won't) do better, humans do not deserve to survive the next large event (which is in process as I write this even if everybody has their heads in the sand).
