New dress
New dress
So to start off the new year, I decided to wear my brand new dress that I bought in the Christmas sales. A Karen Millen zip front sleeveless black real leather midi dress. It’s a gorgeous dress that gives that “wow” feeling. I teamed it with 4” block heel knee boots. Although it’s a midi dress, it’s practically a maxi on me because I am short! The leather is beautiful and soft to touch.
Anyway, I decided to simply go out browsing skirts and dresses and I felt fantastic wearing the dress. It was cold, but instead of putting a blazer on I just wanted the dress to be the star so I left my arms bare. Right decision because the dress constantly reminded me of being in it.i didn’t wear any jewellery or makeup, I just added a simple shoulder bag.
So I had a nice time browsing the clothes but I didn’t try anything on. When I was about to leave I simply said thank you (they were very nice and helpful) to one of the sales staff. She came over to me and simply said “you look incredible”. Wow! This prompted a conversation about clothes and I made the point that clothes should simply be sold as clothes. She agreed. Her comment to me was sincere, and it meant a lot to me. I went home with a real buzz. But it reaffirms what I’ve learned: wear clothes that work with your body shape, it’s not about gender. And that the fashion industry needs to fix this. They are leaving billions on the table right now.

Re: New dress
That is awesome. Congrats on the new dress. It sounds like you have found a great style that works for you.
I just started wearing dresses in the last 6 months. I wear large tops and medium bottoms so my strategy has been to size for the top and let the skirt of the dress fall where it will.
I tend to favor shirt dresses that cover my shoulders over straps because of the common issue of finding dresses that look good despite being designed for less-broad shoulders. But that is just me. I just bought a black denim Levi's dress which I like a lot but it has belt loops that are too high for the usual reason, and I am wondering whether my tailor could move them down without leaving marks.

Part of what I love about my the clothes in my wardrobe now, is how they add to my life while I do normal day to day things. Sometimes as you walk, a skirt will grab your attention with the wind or just moving is a particular way. Skirts made out of a material such as leather or latex, have a certain feel to them and some skirts noise as you move. All good for your mental health as you move through today's world.
I hope you have many more outings in your new dress.
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...

I totally agree. If only I could wear skirts all the time. Today I ironed my black satin skirt and purple satin camisole for Birmingham. They looked better on once ironed, and felt different as well. Just a satin camisole and satin skirt make all the difference to a dull day.Mouse wrote: ↑Sun Jan 04, 2026 7:35 pmPart of what I love about my the clothes in my wardrobe now, is how they add to my life while I do normal day to day things. I agree. I find leather a very special and sensual material to wear which is probably why I also have 2 leather skirts and a suede skirt!Mouse wrote: ↑Sun Jan 04, 2026 7:35 pmPart of what I love about my the clothes in my wardrobe now, is how they add to my life while I do normal day to day things. What I am slowly discovering are the aspects that I enjoy when wearing skirts and dresses and what I should look for in making other purchases. So, the feel is very important and the other part is how the skirt moves. I found this when I bought a dress with a long asymmetrical skirt, the way the skirt moved when I walked wearing heels was intoxicating!
This new dress had also made me realise I love my arms being free so sleeveless dresses could become a signature part of my overall look. It’s all about figuring out your own style and what works for you. Dresses are still relatively new to me but I am absolutely loving them. Part of it is that appear to be very lucky in that I can wear standard size dresses that fit me perfectly.
