Not skirts but I'm in love with UGG boots at this time of year. I wear them with skirts, dresses, jeans, everything and I guarantee more men would wear them or similar boots if they hadn't the female association. Warm, cosy and comfy for out in the cold. About £190 so not cheap, 3 times more than my "male" boots out M&S but worth the outlay for the comfort and longevity.

The supreme irony with UGG boots is that they were originally invented by men for men to wear! Then women started to show an interest in them and guess what happened? They all of a sudden became feminine and men would no longer wear them. What does this tell you? What’s masculine or feminine is a social construct, it’s meaningless nonsense. Wear whatever you want, the boots don’t care who wears them. The real prize here is that the gender binary in fashion is binned. I think it’s nearer than a lot of people realise.

I bought mine many years ago, way before I started wearing skirts in public. So for many years I wore my Uggs with trousers.

I also have a pair of taller black waterproof boots, which I also love.

Found this interview with Brian Smith, the founder of UGG Boots.

At 13mins 18 secs in, he talks about getting the UGG boots into the hands of stylists.
He contacted around 40 stylists in the Hollywood area and offered them a free pair of UGG’s.
So I reckon that that action of Brian's, in the late eighties, to increase sales, was where this thing about them being women’s boots originated.

It also very noticeably damaged the global aesthetic by driving "unisex" further into the "butching up" of women. It should be considered a wholesale loss and a point of concern to folks trying to do similar things in the future.

I'm given to understand that the whole phenomenon may have been a bit of a joke because the "ugg" was supposed to stand for "ugly" (which they certainly are -- and remain). Be very careful of what you wish for. It may come true.

An Ausralian invention where I suspect Ugg being an utterance of caveman speak as they are a rather crude form of footwear. Warm and comfortable and something I wear sitting at the computer in winter with my feet well and truly hidden under the desk.

On Ugg's website the chestnut classic short uggs are sold in men's sizes and have male models. I fancy myself wearing some Levi's men's skinny jeans and tucking them inside those chestnut uggs. Others might joke it looks feminine, but hey, technically those uggs and jeans were sold to men, so the moral police can't charge me with cross-dressing!

That is just the logic I used many years ago when I bought my short Uggs, way before I was wearing skirts. My feet still love them.

Well yeah, I can totally see myself bare-legged in running short shorts (cause male runners do that all the time). And short shorts don't expose your underwear like a miniskirt does. Besides, shorts = casual. Skirt = classy and elegant.

No it doesn't. I have a skirt I use for DIY and it is not classy or elegant. It is just the correct skirt for my DIY and it is a very useful skirt!!!
