Welcome Robin. Wearing a skirt the first time in public has been scary for most of us but after that it just keeps getting easier until, would you believe, you just don't think about it any more than wearing pants in public.

I’ve explored several museums and art galleries in London in a skirt and felt very comfortable. The atmosphere is calm and quiet and people are mostly there to look at the exhibits. And anyone who does notice will be the kind of person who doesn’t mind. Go for it!

Welcome aboard. You have a real leg up on this with a supportive spouse. I have also been blessed that way, and though skirts are everyday, pretty much everywhere for me, I still find I enjoy her company, especially in new places as it is a kind of instant official endorsement. You also seem to have another bonus, being in the UK where it seems the trend and tolerance have made it easier for men to go public with their chosen attire. I hope you have the opportunity to join one of the Meet Ups. So far, I have only myself to meet here and had to travel to the US for even a token meet up. I went to the National Gallery in skirt and met nothing welcomes and smiles. They have floor vents which provided a cooling, gentle breezy. 🪁
The breeze wasn't so bad blow the skirt up.

Its the same at the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras. Nice on a hot day.
I remember the computer room at work back in the 1980s. There were vents in the floor and the women would stand over them on hot days - how I envied them! But now I can enjoy floor vents as well :D
