Hello hello !
Hello hello !
Hi everyone,
I've been reading the forums for a while and finally decided to introduce myself. I'm 23, biologically male, but I identify as agender. I sometimes wear skirts at home, and lately I've been thinking about wearing them in public too. That said, I live in one of the more conservative parts of the country, which makes the idea a bit daunting. I’m often uncomfortable with how my state presents itself socially. I'm open to respectful questions and discussion. This seems like a welcoming and thoughtful community — thank you for having me!

Hi Dani, welcome to the group.

Welcome!
The first time going in public can be daunting. As you will read on the forum, almost everyone has the same experience for their first time out in public: nothing happens

Welcome dani92 to the cafe.

If you post a few more times, you will become a full member and be able to see more of the site. Then you will find pictures of cafe members from all parts of the globe, out in public, in their skirts. This may give you some ideas and confidence for your own adventures.

Daily, a happy man in a skirt...

Hi Dani92,
Welcome to Skirtcafe.
As others have said most of us on here have gone through exactly the same angst and found that it is mainly in our head as most people don't even notice and those that do rarely comment. However it may be that in your "conservative part of the country" you might have cause for concern as in a few countries/places it can be a problem. It might be helpful if you could give us more idea of where you are as there may be other Skirtcafe members who either live nearby or have visited your area who could give more specific advice/encouragement.

Hi Dani92!
Welcome to Skirtcafe.
Every beginning is hard.
I started (in age 57 years) by buying the Czech version of the kilt ( https://www.kiltzahalka.cz/ ), because it is considered men's clothing. And when the city got used to it, I began to wear other skirts to the open air. And more recently, also dresses. I live in a small town ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nov%C3%BD_Kn%C3%ADn ) in Central Bohemia, so I became widely known for wearing skirts. Being different from others always means being more visible.
If you have a kilt-like skirt, it might also help if you start with it. However, I do not know the circumstances around you, so I can not say it with absolute certainty.
Good luck!
Miloš

Everyone should be honest and prudent: to keep promises and, on principle, never to promise anything to anyone.
Sorry for my English. I try not to make spelling mistakes, but for this reason my writing is very slow.

Re: Hello hello !
Hello dani92, The easiest way to start is with a kilt. Whether that is a utility one or a tartan one. There are lots of cheaper online places to get inexpensive tartan style kits. There are also several USA companies making kilts. I have been up and down the eastern US seaboard states a few times without any problems dressed in tartan style kilts. If you have Scottish Irish heritage in your area you won't likely encounter any negativity. Both Scotland and Ireland have national kilts. Lots of the US military have kilts as well as some colleges.
Wishing you success.

Re: Hello hello !
Hello Dani and welcome.
The first time is always the hardest going public. As others have already said, we have all been there. It does get alot easier the more you do it and realise that a direct comment is very rare, the negative look a minority, the postive/inquisitive look also a minority and the vast majority just get on with life or interact with you as if you are in trousers. Compliments are often, I get them.
You will get advice and support on here. The best option is wear what you prefer, wear as a man but do not flaunt. It's what women do with the male wardrobe. Be confident with yourself, any sign of unease with what you are wearing will attract attention. Just wear your choice of clothing as if they were the society expected male clothing.
I too live in a conservative area, politically and with it being rural. However, many wave as they pass, many stop and talk, including farmers, builders and gamekeepers. None do what I do, privately they may find it amusing but face to face they are absolutely fine. There are a few, a handful or so that keep their distance, but that's fine, they are entitled to a view, as I am.
Good luck and all the best.
