A few years back, I was doing video work for a local girls' high school basketball team. One day, I had to take the DVD into the school to leave with the coach. As it happened, I arrived right at the time between classes. The hall was filled with students (all girls) and not a skirt in sight. This would have been in February. Most days at a crowded shopping mall where I went to play chess, I would see hundreds of people and maybe one or two (women) wearing skirts. That is where I got my one half of one percent statistic - personal observation. That was in woke Seattle.Seb wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 6:27 pm Around here about 10% of women will wear a skirt/dress as casual clothing most days, maybe upwards 30% when the weather is nice(and lower ofc when its -20°c and a Blizzard raging). Mostly from counting people at the mall or patients at work so not as representative as on public transit in a big city.

Re: We're the majority!
In my small circle (almost exclusively male), I already have discussed about the skirt wearing with a lot of people. Three male friends, my brother and my father would never wear it (same for a kilt), one friend already wore a kilt to a party but not for a daily attire and would not wear skirt, another friend I don't know about kilt but he told me he would not for a skirt. In the women's side, the first is ocasionnally wearing dresses in the summer, the second told me she doesn't like wearing skirt/dress, the third I don't know (I never seen her wearing any and she never told about it, but I believe it's related to her weight). But the first also told me that she dresses more girly in private than at work to avoid having too many reactions from the (teenage) students.
This sums up to 1/8 for men (I am, of course, the one), and 1/3 for women. I don't feel I belong to any majority with my rare closeted skirt wearing and my rare public kilt wearing.
As for women's casual clothing in public, the same goes here in Belgium, I don't remind a single day out without seeing a few of them wearing a skirt or a dress (even in the coldest days of the winter), and in summer they are very numerous.

Re: We're the majority!
I like the math, but I'm sure it's a bit overly optimistic. The world that most of us see is very limited despite all the media opportunities. Where I am, the number of women who wear skirts and dresses on a daily basis is considerable. Maybe even as many as a third. The men who do so are just me, and I'm sure that statistic looks something like .0000001/1. But I don't get discouraged because no one tries to stop me from wearing what I want, and that's really all I need. Living life in the minority is just fine.

In any case, I would be interested in a romantic relationship only with attractive young ladies. But I am too old for them. And older women lack any such allure.

Glitch with my last post. The text at the bottom-it appears as though I am quoting Hayseed, when in fact those are my own words, regarding me.

I am also totally fine with being interesting and therefore in the minority. I stand out and am remembered by people.

Re: We're the majority!
To be honest I’m totally fine with being in the minority too as a MIS even though I mentioned earlier in this thread that I feel I’m the only middle aged guy in my town who dresses as a MIS. As a guy who has always hated been part of the crowd and I just like being different I find it more liberating and exciting walking in a nice skirt or dress and a pair of tights whilst all the other guys are in their trousers, shorts and jeans. I am into goth “girl” outfits and usually my outfits consist of long black skirts and fishnet tights with Doc Martens boots and leather biker jackets and I feel great being different.
My name is Arty. I’m a guy with a passion for wearing skirts, dresses and tights and a hobbiest musician and artist.

I am so looking forwards to the end of the month where we can meet-up at the 'Great Event' in Aberdeen.DrFishnets wrote: ↑Sat Jun 07, 2025 7:59 am I am into goth “girl” outfits and usually my outfits consist of long black skirts and fishnet tights with Doc Martens boots and leather biker jackets and I feel great being different.

Re: We're the majority!
This whole thread (I'm the majority because it just so happens that one day there were no women wearing skirts in that room!) is pure self-deception.
Also, as long as male skirt wearing is astronomically rare, it will only continue to be stigmatized. We NEED to unite and be very vocal about why men wearing skirts is great. Write all the opinion pieces to all the publications we can.

It’s probably due to the hot weather we are experiencing at the moment in the UK but when I walked along my local high street the other day I would say that at least 70% of the women were in skirts or dresses!

Yes, and I've seen a bunch of men wearing skirts in Bristol: ankle length 'gypsy' skirts and others in utility kilts.
Women chose options that are practical for the situation because they culturally have way more options available as a baseline.

RH, just to be clear, "bunch", do you mean groups of men or isolated individuals on numerous occasions?robehickman wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 12:00 am Yes, and I've seen a bunch of men wearing skirts in Bristol: ankle length 'gypsy' skirts and others in utility kilts.

It's worth bearing in mind that Saturday was a Pride march in Bristol, which may account for the relatively large numbers of men in skirts.

Ah, good point Trainspotter.trainspotter48 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 8:43 am It's worth bearing in mind that Saturday was a Pride march in Bristol, which may account for the relatively large numbers of men in skirts.
I was at the Aberdeen Pride a few weeks ago, plenty guys in various levels of femme attire.
We were nowhere near a majority though, loads more trousers and even, apparently cis females in skirts and dresses.
Sad part is that guys feel they need the cover of events like Pride to get the permission to dress as they choose.
Steve.
