Getting compliments

I got my first compliment today whilst walking through the university grounds going to town. I wore black rigger boots with black tights and my short pinafore dress with burgundy waistcoat and a long black trenchcoat and a young woman in her 20s passed by and smiled at me and told me she likes what I’m wearing. I looked back at her and acknowledged, smiled and thanked her for her compliment.

Anyway, a few minutes later I started thinking to myself that maybe she was just being sarcastic and my negative thinking was in overdrive. I should really be flattered but as usual my negative thinking took control. I mentioned what happened to one of the guys I usually chat to at my local music shop and he told me that I should be flattered and she was indeed making a compliment and to stop all this negative thinking but negative thinking goes hand in hand with anxiety and depression.

I think that a lot of people like seeing different, creative things as it brightens up their life. It should be encouraging to get compliments.

Yeah I agree compliments should be encouraged and the fact that the young woman said she liked what I was wearing was a confidence booster and made me feel good. However, it was my paranoia whether she meant it and wasn’t trying to be funny is when my negative thinking went into overdrive. However, I’m sure she liked what I was wearing as she sounded genuine.

I get random compliments, mainly from women, all the time. I just assume they are positive and offer thanks back. If there is something I like in what they are wearing, I may try a compliment back, in a very gentle careful way, making sure not to be a creepy old man!

I think that a lot of people like seeing different, creative things as it brightens up their life. It should be encouraging to get compliments.

Summed up brilliantly. Don't go negative, most people are looking for something to brighten their day.

I also get compliments from women with the dresses I wear.
One question I have: Why has "Trouser Tyranny" taken over women so much? I go to a local park, and I'm the only one wearing a dress. Or to a church function outside of Sunday morning where I as a man am the only one wearing a dress. At least I don't get harrased for my attire.

I was walking at an outdoor type mall. Coming towards me was a group of teenage boys. Getting prepared for the worst, I was surprised. The only comment made was one of the young men said "I like your jeans". (I was wearing a denim skirt and light colored shirt). I smiled and thanked him. I didn't hear any other comments or snickers. It didn't sound sarcastic or meant in a negative way, but then I always try to have a positive attitude when I'm out.

I get compliments on my attire often from women, everything from skirts/dresses, shoes, even my handbags or earrings. If you look stylish and tasteful, then people will look upon you favorably.

I rarely get compliments and I don't expect them as I never did when wearing pants. I went out to dinner the other night and rode the bicycle. It was quite cold and I dressed to suit. There were half a dozen people there and the lady host asked if she could get a photo on her phone when I was going. The next morning I got a nice sms "Thanks for being a fashionable friend" with the attached photo.

Nicely dressed for the weather. We're not used to the extreme cold of friends in the far northern extremes, but they are hopefully enjoying summer.
