Random person yelling 'what are your pronouns'
I've been wearing skirts for dancing (contra, balfolk, and ceilidh) for a few months now and am really enjoying that experience. I started out with a makeshift square-circle skirt I made from a square of fabric I found in a charity shop fastened with a safety pin, and then made a 'proper' bright red knee length circle and a half skirt which has a lovely twirl, and has gotten me many complements at festivals.
I've also been experimenting a bit with wearing skirts in other settings and did some errands in my home town today which caused no bother or notice until some random person was repeatedly yelling 'what are your pronouns' at me across the street out of nowhere. I ignored them and carried on doing what I was doing.
I'm male and don't wish to be seen as anything else, and this kind of thing is really silly. Sure I guess seeing a guy in a very full skirt isn't common today, but there's no need to make a scene out of it. I've found the box of 'male fashion' extremely boring for a long time and really like bright colours. Circle skirts are nice because they have practically unlimited range of movement.
Anyone else had any similar experiences?

It's pretty unusual for people to yell comments like that from a distance, in my experience. I think one time at Disney World a small group of drunk girls yelled "nice skirt!" in unison, but I can't remember now what skirt I was wearing that time. I don't let it bother me, it comes with stepping out of the boring box.

Hi robehickman, Welcome to the cafe. I wear skirts everyday and they range from mini to floor sweeping. I have also made circle skirts out of various materials including latex. I love circle skirts for the way they move around you.
If you post a few more times, you will become a full member and then, be able to see the picture area of the site, where some of us post pictures of ourselves in various outfits.
As to the odd comment, that happens from time to time, but most of the time I go about skirted with no bother. I work and travel around London and live in Cambridge, and I can't remember the last time someone shouted out something at me. I get a lot of compliments and most of them are from women.
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...

As for the stupid and ignorant dumb-skulls that yell at people, don't worry about them they are not important to your life. Most of them are crazy stupid at best!robehickman wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 5:25 pm I've also been experimenting a bit with wearing skirts in other settings and did some errands in my home town today which caused no bother or notice until some random person was repeatedly yelling 'what are your pronouns' at me across the street out of nowhere.

Enjoy being skirted and don't let them ruin your day!!!

The answer yo the question "What are your pronouns" is: "I don't have any pronouns. I am a human being, not a language".

@Mouse Hi, thank you, circle skirts do have a lovely flow to them, how does a latex one behave? It seems that women have no issue with guys in skirts - I was wearing a skirt most of the time at both Sidmouth and Shrewsbury folk festival and had many complements from women of various ages, the people around Sidmouth didn't bat an eye.
@FLbreezy, @Fred in Skirts, @Stu, I agree, just ignore people. Actually I find wearing a skirt as a guy quite empowering because it feels very taboo on one hand, but the majority of people don't care at all. Hopefully this becomes more normalised, in my opinion it's about time men's clothing broke out of the 'boring box', and women have been wearing who knows what for years.

You’ll always get narrow minded idiots like that person you encountered but most of the time people don’t care or they keep what they think about you to themselves and just mention it to their friends without you knowing. I have had no problems so far dressing the way I do and had a compliment from an attractive young woman at the university and compliments from two of my art tutors who are female and compliments from my partner who supports me with my skirt wearing. However, I had a negative experience a couple of weeks ago when in a busy shopping centre a bunch of teenagers laughed when I walked past.

My name is Arty. I’m a guy with a passion for wearing skirts, dresses and tights and a hobbiest musician and artist.

Re: Random person yelling 'what are your pronouns'
If they were yelling it, it sounds like they were trying to be obnoxious. Unfortunately society as a whole has really tied trans-women to the whipping post for basically every single issue, and has become the defacto poster-child for everything that is wrong with the world. (No really, nothing else matters, ALL problems are because of those damned "men in dresses".... it's the low hanging fruit for pretty much every single right wing rant).
Anyway, of you want to, tell them "I'm a guy" and watch their heads explode.

Or it could make them think for once in their life, though that particular response is more likely, regardless.

I don't care which gender of pronouns used for me. Just don't call me that endearing term uttered by drill instructors at raw recruits of "Maggot".

If the interrogator was yelling, then you were likely dealing with an act of aggression. Behave accordingly. Just sayin'.

They were being obnoxious, yes, and it's silly that we are still tying clothing to gender in such a ridged way - it's just cloth... skirts are some of the earliest kinds of clothing worn by all humans in ancient times because they are very easy to make...moonshadow wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 8:37 pm If they were yelling it, it sounds like they were trying to be obnoxious. The whole trans / LGBTQ thing becoming very mainstream as of late makes me much more cautious than I'd otherwise be about the situations I'm willing to wear skirts in public, and given this experience will be sticking to wearing them mostly for dancing, where people are intelligent enough to realise 'skirt twirling is fun for anyone'.
Most women do not wear skirts any more and have not done so for quite some time, yet there remains a lingering association of them being 'for women', and the LGBTQ community seems to be using them as a political symbol, to the extent that I understand it.

I have never experienced anything like that. Best to ignore that behaviour as they are either intoxicated or have mental health problems.
Otherwise if you are built like a blacksmith I knew, you could reply "I know your pronoun you ignorant c***"

Re: Random person yelling 'what are your pronouns'
anytime I hear prounouns these days, I can't help but think of that line from spaceballs. "YOU WILL REFER TO ME AS IDIOT NOT YOU CAPTIAN" for some reason. I guess because the whole thing is just about that ridiculous.
