Re: I finally wore a skirt in public
I decided to wear my pinafore dress with black leggings and casual t-shirt to my art and craft group today. Two women run the group but nothing was said and no one at the group batted an eye lid and they spoke to me as normal. After the art group I had a look around town and in the shops and again like last time nothing was said. I don’t know if I got negative or positive comments while walking as I had my headphones on but so far so good.
I might wear my black skirt tomorrow at my guitar group with a pair of thick black tights.

Well done, as you are finding out, no body cares what you wear. Keep your head up and enjoy your new free life wearing what you like.DrFishnets wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 11:58 am I decided to wear my pinafore dress with black leggings and casual t-shirt to my art and craft group today. Re: I finally wore a skirt in public
Thanks for the heads up. The other day I went into town wearing black pinafore dress with beige t-shirt and burgundy waste coat with black tights and light brown timberland boots. Everything was fine but I started feeling a bit intimidated when a girl early 20s in leggings and tracksuit top crossed the road and seen me and she kept on looking behind at me with a grin on her face when I was walking behind her. Also a couple of teenage guys looked at me with a grin on their face when standing at traffic lights. Other than that everything was fine.

I don’t mind if anyone has a laugh at me because I am wearing a dress or skirt. It’s good to laugh and I consider that I’m doing a public service. It doesn’t happen very often but when it does I don’t tend to react, except maybe with a grin.
To get as far as wearing skirts or dresses in public is an indicator of being comfortable in one’s own skin and unbothered by the thoughts or behaviour of strangers.

I know I mentioned I felt intimidated when I was getting grins but in a way I suppose it makes it fun and humorous which is what we need in life as life is so dull and depressing. Also stares, grins and reactions from the public whether good or bad make the wearing of skirts, dresses and tights more exciting but somehow I still feel intimidated when I shouldn’t.

Nothing like just jumping in. Put on a Black Tennis skirt and a Tank top for a road trip to the beach.
Drove to the Beach, met with a friend that was now living there. He showed me around town, we had Lunch at a Sea Food place on the pier then went shopping and finished the afternoon at the local bar having a few beers.
I latter checked into my hotel room.
No said a thing to me about my skirt.

Re: I finally wore a skirt in public
Funny how before we go out in a skirt we seem to think the masculine fashion police will escort us to the nearest cliff. Yet, when we finally drive up the courage it is when we discover that the only person concerned with non-gender conforming skirt wearing is ourselves - the wearer
.
I used to put on skirts only around the house and when out about in London without seeing any friends, however now I wear it basically all the time, weather permitting (as I wear trousers rather than skirt with tights on colder days). My friends, neighbours and local dog walkers who I meet regularly didn't say a single word seeing me in a skirt. Such is the bias in our minds
