Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I wore a plain skirt to the supermarket today: above the knee, in a beige cotton fabric that might just as well have been shorts, with polo shirt, white trainers. No comments or reactions, as usual, but when my wife got home she took a photo of me in the kitchen. I haven't thought it politic to ask why, but it didn't seem to be a negative reaction. She did comment that it seemed a bit low slung, as though worn under a belly (gee, thanks dear!), so I pointed out the functional difference in where skirts hang on people with more waist and less hip.

Any skirt or other garment (kilt) worn at the waist (hip waist - whatever) should stay at that latitude and not be a London skirt falling down.
Whether held in place by straps and buckles velcro buttons zipper or even elastic - falling down off the hips is not acceptable for a proper fit.

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

I bought my daughter a really nice Ralph Lauren skirt ebay special and had it tailored to fit her. Wow it hung so nicely on her. But then all skirts (or nearly all) are made for a woman's figure.Myopic Bookworm wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 7:16 pm I wore a plain skirt to the supermarket today: above the knee, in a beige cotton fabric that might just as well have been shorts, with polo shirt, white trainers. If I wear my skirts at navel level they just fall down until they settle on my hips about 3" below my navel.
Leading to a low slung look. It's just a fact of being a man. I don't have problem with a low slung skirt, just my belly. I need to loose a few pounds

I would like to be able to wear cropped T shirts with confidence*. I don't say I would actually wear them much (although I have a couple), but I would like to be able to! So some inches must go...Barleymower wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 9:30 pm I don't have problem with a low slung skirt, just my belly. I need to loose a few pounds![]()
* Even though I see cropped T shirts being worn confidently by young ladies with much more flab around the equator than I have! Maybe it's the youth more than the shape - but I can't do anything about that

I've seen a social media picture doing the rounds of two eighty year old men. One drooling and one with a washboard stomach and the body of 25 year old.Myopic Bookworm wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 3:30 pmI would like to be able to wear cropped T shirts with confidence*. I don't know if its possible but I'm doing more exercise. Second, although l like the look of cropped tops they are not for me. BUT I'm on the look out for a jumper which ends at my waistband. Not as short as a crop top but shorter than a regular man jumper

My wife & I spent a few days in Asheville a week or so ago. I don't wear skirts out near home, so I always plan to go out in a skirt on our out of town trips. Unfortunately we were there for a cold snap, down into the 20's. Our first day out I wore a calf length blue denim skirt with thick black stockings. Our first stop was "The antique Barn". The temps were approaching 40 & they had all the sliding doors wide open & fans circulating air. I though the long skirt & thick stockings would keep my legs warm, but I was wrong! I thought my legs were going to freeze. We went to a few more stores & to a restaurant for lunch. We were both chilled & called it a day.
The next day turned out warmer, but I just could not go out in a skirt after freezing the previous day. Our next trip is not until February so I will not have a chance to go out in a skirt until then. That will be an RV trip to Florida, so hopefully the weather will be better.

Yes, men's shirts are too long especially when wearing a mini skirt which I do most of the time. Shirts are so long that if I wear it over the skirt it looks like I am just wearing a shirt and if tucked in then it can hang down like a wayward petticoat. Some shirts I tuck in and the pull some back out at the waist until it is shortened. I purchased some women's cotton shirts, supplied for garden nursery work, which look just like men's but shorter, with opposite handed buttons which does not worry me as I don't get into sword fightsgreenboots wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2023 5:26 am And I’d likeable shirt that’s a bit shorter than a regular man’s shirt. The wife and I took a trip to Disney World for a few days recently for a much-needed vacation and to enjoy the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot. I took the opportunity to check "wear a kilt at Disney" off my bucket list. I only wore skirts (Skirtcraft wrap skirt, 2 Duluth Rootstock skorts) and a Sport Kilt hiking kilt the entire time. No negativity the whole time, I felt very comfortable and it was a real joy to wear what I wanted. The kilt was especially nice during the day when the temperatures were quite warm.
For sure there were some curious looks but I just chalk that up to cognitive dissonance of seeing a masculine presenting person wearing a single item of clothing that is not typically worn. The vibe I perceived when wearing the kilt was a little different just because it stands out much more than a skirt and is also male-coded in peoples minds.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I don't make many appearances in court and today was my first is as long as I can remember. I wasn't so sure about wearing a skirt there but I did and am glad that I did. It was for jury duty and I decided a longer skirt would work since I'd be sitting in incomparable positions a lot while waiting be assigned or set free and I didn't want to have to worry about being careful about any exposures. Leggings and tights are not on my agenda for now. I was in a crowd of about 300 while waiting and since I don't sit very well for long I made several slow laps around the room reading announcements and such. Eventually I was sent out as a potential juror and sat through that whole weeding out process. I was glad not to be chosen in the end. The picture is the outfit that I wore and I actually got 2 " I love your outfit comments 1 each from young male and female, and 1 "love those shoes" from a female. Between the filing in and out and the security scanning etc. I am sure that there were many long takes on what I was wearing. But most important, a little slice of society saw a man wearing a skirt in court and the building didn't collapse.

I'm not sure if this counts:
This evening I was sat happily watching TV wearing a black poly-viscose mini skirt from F&F (Tesco) when the doorbell rang. Bearing in mind that, owing to spousal disapproval, skirting it below the radar, this presented a challenge. My wife has poor vision, so doesn't answer the door at night. It had to be me.
On the doorstep was our boss, who lives just round the corner. She is currently spending lots of time at the hospital supporting a family member, and wanted to drop off some stuff for us to take to the office tomorrow. Being cold outside, courtesy dictated I had to let her in. During the 10-15 minute catch-up, I don't think she noticed the skirt. Certainly nothing was said. Whether MOH realised the situation, I don't know.
Anyway, the first time I've worn a skirt in front of a colleague. Not sure what to make of it, but I'll call it a success!

The wife and I dropped nearly $5,600 at Lowes today ordering new kitchen appliances. I was wearing my black GotKilt Utility Kilt with black leggings (it was in the low 50's) and received a pleasant comment from the lady who started answering our questions.
Then we drove to a neighboring town for lunch and a bit of Christmas shopping - there were no other comments and no funny looks or sidewise glances (that I noticed). A successful day, in my opinion.
BTW, it was a kilt my wife bought for me when we stumbled across a GotKilt store in the Mall of America that we visited on a road trip in September.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
It was a really nice day yesterday here in east Kansas, with the temperature in the low 70s. I decided to go out shopping for a skirt. I stopped into the Goodwill store. I was wearing a lite blue denim skirt. I noticed a couple talking. Nothing was said to me and I couldn't hear them, but it was obvious they were talking about my skirt. I guess seeing a man in a skirt distracted her. As she was leaving she said I forgot what I came in here for. I should have said something, but I'm not the type of person to start a conversation with a stranger. I will answer someone who talks to me first. I did hold the door open for a couple of ladies as I left the store (which is something I was brought up to do for anyone, male or female). I don't think they even noticed what I was wearing. I don't think most people notice when it's a denim skirt. Most people just think you're wear shorts.
I didn't find anything at Goodwill so I went over to JC Penney and found a nice midi skirt on clearance. It ended up being a good outing even if it was to short lived.
