Here's my layman's observation over the public perception of the vaccines...

Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were developed during the Trump administration... and I recall during that time, Trump voters couldn't wait to get their hands on the doses to get life back to normal... leftist in the meantime felt the vaccines were being rushed too quickly and didn't trust the process.

Today the tables have flipped, now that Biden is pushing vaccines, the right are refusing the shots and the left is suddenly just fine with the rushed development...

Let's be honest, had Trump had won in 2020, you know damned well that the southern states would have the 75% vaccination rates and the blue states would be the ones lagging behind..

Same shots... different politics.

Conclusion: people are full of sh!t.

You're exactly right B&B... this is just another show at the circus...

https://youtu.be/J6IQVK3KffY

The world is a circus
Oh, look what they can do
To that horse, to that lion
To that tiger and that bear
The world is an arena
And the cage waits in the back
For that eagle, for that monkey,
For that ape and all of you
They applaud, they applaud
To the parody of nature
It's a fraud, it's a fraud
It's a consume stimulator
What a show, what a show
They present us what they've trained
With that man, with that woman,
With that child and all of us
We consume, we consume
We got to work and then we sleep
We buy and then we eat
When we oppose they shut us up
Make it stop, make it stop
Before the clowns will eat themselves
We gotta leave the circus
Cause we want to see the world
The circus of tears
Plays the requiem of life
Here we go – here we go
It's an animal show – to go

I've had similar thoughts...

I also think people wrongly associate anti-vaxxers with Republicans - I've had enough discussions with a variety of people to realize there is no one true political party when it comes to scientific stupidity - and I don't conflate cautious acceptance/rejection with anti-vaccine. People just tend to follow their leader.

I don't care who's occupying The Throne in DC. I care about my health and the health of those around me. Thus, I was going to get vaccinated even if The Donald was still king -- so long as it wasn't a rush-job using MLV (Modified Live Virus). I was pleased to hear that the designs were mRNA, as the dangers of that technology are orders of magnitude less than MLV.

At this point, aside from the one member of the household who hasn't been vaccinated yet (superstition and cherry-picking of data), I don't care if Uncle Chuck takes many, if not most, of the ones who ignore the science. I know that sounds cold, but it's well known that natural laws have no pity, and -- face it -- extinction is the rule not the exception. Make. Stupidity. Hurt.

Like myself, I lined myself up for my doses as soon as I understood that my phase was up (it was my turn). It was still in the beginning of the Biden administration (first shot taken March 25th 2021), and the anti-vaxers hadn't gained a lot of traction yet. I'm not "in the know" on what our government is up to, but I tried to apply some common sense principles to determine how safe the vaccine was, and my conclusion fell along these lines:

I determined that the vaccine was likely safe considering:

1) The first people in line were first responders, doctors, nurses, others in the medial industry, and others vital to the functioning of our modern society. It makes absolutely no sense that if these vaccines were sinister in origin, that they'd poison our best and brightest. It makes no sense that our government is would poison its populous and make us infertile while at the same time offering substantial cash incentives just for popping babies.

2) I realize that neither Trump nor Biden have personally had a hand in the development of the vaccine other than arranging billions of tax payers dollars to go into the research. And that the vaccine was developed by a scientific body far beyond my understanding or comprehension. In other words, no, Uncle Trump, or Cousin Biden did NOT cook this stuff up in their bathtub. Yes, there is an element of trust on my part. I also trust the system every time I cross a bridge, walk across a dam, take a doctor prescribed medication, or allow a surgeon to cut into me. These people are professionals, unlike many politicians, and we already trust them with our lives on many other accounts.

What's bugging me is the threat of the Delta variant, and I can already see the rumblings of future shutdowns, mask mandates, social distancing, etc coming around the bend. I expect it to hit my region HARD, and I'm very annoyed that I'll be expected to fall inline, mask up, avoid gatherings, have to start using the drive through again, and basically just living in March 2020 all over again because a bunch of hard headed dumb-asses decided that if Donald Trump tells them to jump off a bridge, that's just what they'll DO! And they'll drag people like me down with them! :x

I feel like I'm one of the kids trying to behave at the school lunch table, but everyone else is being unruly and now everyone is going to have silent lunch.... I'm sick of this childish crap! I'm tired of paying the price... WITH INTEREST... for MORONS! I wish people would just grow the hell up.

Fun side note:

A few months ago, I made a small youtube video about how basically if the government wants you dead, you're dead. And there's nothing you can do to stop them. The point of the video was to poke fun at all of the anti-covid-vax people out there worrying about a voluntary jab. Well, despite the fact that I was basically endorsing getting the jab, the YouTube algorithm deleted my video for spreading "false information about the covid-19 pandemic and vaccines". And yet, I see anti-vax stuff on YouTube all of the time, with millions of views!

My video had 7 views.... Seven. Just seven, and I'm pretty sure six of them were me- and suddenly it's a threat to humanity... for God's sake. So I pulled the remaining stuff... f--- em... I ain't playing that game. As a result, pretty much anything I read, published or not, I take with a grain of salt. I realize that only certain voices are allowed to speak in today's society. You can't really blame people for being stupid. They're fed a constant diet of stupid information, what do you expect?

I agree. We all have the chance to get the shot FOR FREE. There is NO EXCUSE not to. If someone fail to get it and dies as a result, well... stupid is as stupid does. Kentucky doesn't require motorcycle riders to wear helmets either, and I often see them riding without one in the state... so if that thing gets away from them and their brains are splattered all over the highway... I hate that for 'em, but they had a choice, and they chose to be an idiot. What are you gonna do?

True, but there are very few Republicans left anymore.

The hypocrisy of our society makes my head spin. I sit here and watch angry conservatives line up at school board meetings denouncing requiring children to wear face mask at school. They do so in the name of personal freedom and the right to CHOOSE. A noble cause for sure...

... yeah, then let a boy show up for school in a dress and watch what those same people have to say about PERSONAL FREEDOM and the RIGHT TO CHOOSE...

Umhmmm... Nobody wants "freedom", everyone individually wants the freedom to rule over everyone else.

The far right says the boy can't wear a dress to school.

The far left says the boy can't call himself a boy and wear a dress to school.

Boy I've really gotten off topic... Sorry, had to blow off some steam...

Because of my profession I was deemed "essential" very early on -- and then hung out to die as vaccines became available. I had extremely wide latitude to wander hither, thither, and yon -- but decided not to because I understood that the mask was for the protection of others, not you, and my data backed that up. Yet, I had to wait until my age-group became "eligible", and had I been required to travel into risk might well have contracted the damned thing. Essentially, I was told, "You're important!" and then immediately thereafter, "But we're going to let you die because of that."

There's money in this madness somewhere, but I haven't gotten to the bottom of it yet. In the meantime, my focus is getting a position that won't destroy my brain while I've still got one -- and my worry is that I may not have much time left before I have to take another four months off to unpick the damage done by this renegade corporation.

Now that I recall, I believe my initial drawback from the vaccine was simply "that if I'm going to do this, I'm going to do this right". My concern early on was that I'd get the first jab, but get the run around trying to obtain the second one. I had already heard some stories from others who were having trouble getting their second jab, however by March, the issue appeared to be sorted with reports indicating an excess of unused vaccines.

A visit to the Walgreens website cinched the deal for me, when I scheduled my first jab (which was about two days later), the system already scheduled my second one for me 4 weeks out. Easy peasy... Then all I had to do was show up. I was in and out on both occasions within about 15 minutes.

After the jab they make you wait 15 minutes anyway before they allow you leave. A precaution, I'm told.

Anti-jabbers or no, it's a no-brainer. You've gotta have it done. In order to open up indoor hospitality here they are insisting on digital certs for punters. These are to be issued to 'The Jabbed' before July 19th., including me.

I am a bit cautious that there is under-reporting of the prevalence side effects. This is based on friends of people I know having dropped dead or ending up in hospital within days of having the vaccine. One was aged 35 and another was 46, although the others were over 70 and over 80. I realise that it's a game of statistics, and I think it's really important that vulnerable people are vaccinated, however, the argument that the benefit outweighs the risk for people (unless vulnerable) of under the age of, let's say, 35 is somewhat dubious to say the least. In the case of my son, aged 19, the risk of him dying from Covid is compatible with the chance of him getting struck by lightening.

Do I think they should keep many of the restrictions here in the UK? Well, yes, for two reasons: 1) the government does not appear to have dropped its idea of letting the virus run riot, and therefore that's the only way to temper the spread, and 2) this government has, and still is, intentionally underfunding the NHS and, although hospitalisations are considerably lower than in previous waves (thanks to the vaccinations) the strain of underfunding which has led to cuts in bed numbers, means that dealing with Covid has to be a priority over treating other diseases. Some people will almost certainly die before they get treated for cancer or whatever.

It appears that the majority of those visiting hospital over here with the Delta variant are in the younger unvaccinated group. Of course there are exceptions including one unfortunate woman that was infected with two variants at the same time. Now she was unlucky! Reports of the odd antivaxxer being hospitalised as a result of catching the virus. My view is that anyone consciously rejecting offers of the vaccine should be left to suffer the consequences of their decision and if they contract the virus then they should be put on the list for a Darwin Award, subject to confirmation of fitting the criteria.

They just advised me to sit in the car for ten minutes before attempting to drive. Much to my annoyance Scotland doesn't seem to be planning for any sort of vaccination certificate, I would like to be able to carry proof that I have had both jags, why the hell not?

Oh and down in darkest Englandshire I am getting increasingly concerned over the latest garbled advice from Westminster, as in, repealing laws about precautions then saying they still advise precautions are taken and that people should act responsibly. Going on past evidence most of the general public aren't fit to be let out in public!

Although I do see the sense of relaxing precautions now, to get the next peak out of the way before the weather turns, a peak in Winter with people living indoors in closed heated environment, catching flu and other bugs, not able to mingle outside due to the weather etc. will be much harder to deal with, Boy am I glad I don't have to make those decisions!

My wife and I were given a smal card each with name and the vaccine batch number on it. There are entries in our medical records - I've seen them.
