In 2014 I was also skirted almost every day on a trip to Spain, including in La Sagrada Familia. The hookers in Madrid even came on to me in a skirt!lazerr wrote:Hi All:
Just back from Barcelona. What a difference in weather compared to Boston!
Anyway I can conform that lots of WOMEN wear skirts there, saw no men, other than me.
I don't have a lot of photos available yet but I will update. Here is one at Park Guell.

Blackburn, Lancashire. A quick singing trip, mostly sporting my red cord mini. The only holes I saw were the wide open mouths of the uncomprehending locals. The choir we joined forces with seemed utterly unfazed. I was chatting to one of them about the cathedral we were in, and he gave me an impromptu guided tour of the building. He was clearly completely unfazed by my skirt.
Keep on skirting,
Alastair

Good show, and congrats! A couple questions, though. Were there 4000 holes? And did they fill the Albert Hall?skirtyscot wrote:Blackburn, Lancashire. Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Out for my morning constitutional hobble today.
Suede above the knee skirt, a bit of a favourite.
Nice young mum was escorting her pre-schooler noticed that it was a bit rucked at the rear.
A quick, "I hope you don't mind" and it was fixed.
No fuss or fanfare, the best.
Steve.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Well done Stevie....I was in a vintage shop in Falmouth today as a man in a skirt...a second person came into the shop whilst I was assisting the proprietor in closing a
display cabinet.... The proprioter said " Do you prefer to be called sir or madam, these days ?" ... " Madam " ...was the reply , in a very deep voice.
I had to move towards the person to get clear of the cabinet....."Excuse me sir " ... I said...Then I looked up at the face and female hair style and glasses.....
and female boots and female trousers.....
My next comment was ......." I do apologise madam...I only heard a deep voice."........ The reply was...." That is alright sir . I am working on my voice ""........
The conversation then continued regarding the stock in the shop......I was a Man in a Skirt with a beard and shoes with bare legs below my skirt.......
The other customer was obviously a T.G. in female boots and trousers......... The elderly Lady was quite happy with her customers.......

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I was at work yesterday and left about 15:00. When I got home, on taking off my fleece jacket, I realised that I had come away with a works scanner. It's a hand-held device a little smaller than but thicker than the modern mobile phone and we use it for many of the instore functions such as scanning prices, producing Shelf Edge Labels stock control and so on. So easily done but I felt that I had to return it as today I'm not at work. If I had been at work then I would have just kept it and returned it when I had gone in. So I got changed ( short sleeve black button shirt, grey jumper, bias plaid skirt, thick black tights and flat canvas shoes ) and went back to work. Staff reaction - nowt. Well not exactly nowt as a newbie that hadn't seen me in a skirt before expressed some surprise, to coin a phrase. But the rest just accepted what I was wearing and my conversations with them were natural and unforced. I might find some excuse to pop in there today, just for the sheer hell of it.
BTW, MOH offered a comment this morning as she was brushing her hair. Apparently in the Chinese take-away she works in, a couple of young girls entered, ordered meals and, in MOH's words, they were kissing and snogging, making other customers feel uncomfortable. MOH said that they acted shamefully and should keep such behaviour behind closed doors ( and not being one to fail to get a sarky word in ) such as men wearing skirts as well. I let it pass as I didn't think it worth the aggro with a response.

I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Dennis, you need one of us to go into the Chinese take-away and prove that a man in a skirt won't make customers feel uncomfortable. Surely we can organise a different person each day of the week - I would go in if I wasn't so far away - in a mini skirt too - but it would have to be warm weather.Sinned wrote:BTW, MOH offered a comment this morning as she was brushing her hair. My name is Anthony, please accept me for the person that I am.
Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Thank you Anthony for the offer. I know that you would too. Unfortunately she intends finishing at the take away tomorrow night. She's worked there for nearly four years without a pay rise, earning sufficiently above the minimum wage, cash in hand, to make it worthwhile but she hadn't had a pay rise in all that time despite moving from reception to cooking and bagging. She mentioned ti to him a few weeks ago and according to her he begrudgingly offered her a 50p an hour pay rise. She has declined it and told him that she is finishing. As it is a very busy two person business he will not be able to cope without extra help. Besides, she works 5pm to 10pm approximately 5 nights a week and it's very tying and tiring so she's ready for a rest. We'll miss the money, sure, but she's fed up with it all now so it's time for her to move on.
I think that she realises that men can wear skirts it's just the "but not my man" syndrome. I moan about it but we've reached an impass and I wear skirts when I can, and she knows what's going on, until she winges then reel back a bit. I have a lot more leeway than some here and I can live with it. I just wish that she would accompany me just once to see what little reaction there is from others.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I was out yesterday on a wee jaunt. First time in the car for a very long while. We visited a small shopping area on the outskirts of Aberdeen. The skirt drew a lot more stares than I have become accustomed to. The parochial people need a skirted missionary and I feel the call. A repeat visit is definitely due but only when I gain some independent mobility. A new venue for my Saturday or Sunday coffee will be a likelihood.
The trip itself was fine and most of the folks were real friendly too I must add.
Steve.

I would suggest you try wearing the traditional Scottish Kilt....The Locals might be more polite....From my experience the Scots love to sit
in groups and laugh at people behind their backs......A good excuse for another wee dram..........L.O.L.

Weeladdie, please explain your experience of the Scots which would justify such a derisory set of comments!

Weeladdie
I'd be grateful if you could point me to the thread where Stevie insulted kilt wearers. I'm not sure I saw that, and I'd be surprised if it were the case.
Wearing a kilt would certainly resonate more with locals, but a skirt is frequently a lot more comfortable, and at the end of the day, who do you dress for? Yourself, or those around you?
