Post by David R »

Zara now have a skirt intended for wear by men. The Zara men's Dark Skirt can be found on the Zara website in the Man Shorts section.

Just took a look at the skirt, it looks like a ladies wrap skirt put onto a male model, it wraps to the left. If it was truly made for a guy it would wrap to the right. And what's with one side longer than the other. Sorry not for me. :(

Is this it (hyperlink)

If so, I tend to agree with melsav. Sort of an odd shape. While not for me, it's nice to see another retailer marketing a men's skirt.

Still, If I'm going to spend $50 on a new skirt.... I'm heading to Misty Mountain! :D

However, once again, for those men who aren't insecure about their manhood..... take a walk to the other side of the "aisle".... Some cool stuff in here!

Then again, looking at their size chart they appear to have nothing larger than 33" (size 14), which if it's got a stretchy waist then I can fit, but otherwise.... not much for the average American woman here.... or the not so average skirt wearing American man.

I'm curious - why does the direction of wrap change the garment completely?

Hi Ray. I know we are trying to promote gender equality when it comes to clothing. But I am still of the opinion that if a garment is designed for men to wear it should look like it designed for a guy. And with regards to changing the garment, it doesn't. Even if it did wrap to the right I still don't like it.

I think it would make more sense if the direction of wrap changed going from the northern to southern hemisphere.

I would be tempted to take a pair of scissors to the side that hangs lower than the other.

I have a towell that can look like that. I think I will stick with women's skirts thanks. Well, it is good that a maker is marketing "male skirts" that wrap the same way as women's because we can wear what ever we like and people will think "Oh, that must be a pink, frilly male skirt because a man is wearing it". No harm at all.

So here we are... a bunch of actual male skirt wearers, and one thing I notice is that it seems nobody likes the skirt.

So I don't expect they'll sell many. Then they'll go back to their marketing department and say... "well ghee... they said we should market a male skirt, and we did, but nobody bought it! Guess we should just stick with designer trousers!"

Yet the 800 lb elephant in the room says that maybe the issue is.... well... nobody likes *the* skirt. They might however like *another* skirt....

Look at the success of the SkirtCraft skirt!

But..... psst... little secret... clothes have no gender... it's just fabric and stitches, and they either fit or they don't. There are enough boring skirts out there to make any manly man feel secure in his manhood if he'd just grow a pair and try....

I sort of like the skirt but I think the model is wearing the skirt in such a way as to exaggerate the difference in lengths between the wraps of the skirt. A picture of the skirt on its own I think shows the true view. Don't like the price of any of the skirts, male or female, and wouldn't consider them, although there are some in the female section that are wearable. From ASDA I have two skirts with the George label, one blue the other tan, with this sort of hem and I think it looks cool. I have worn them out with no reaction.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

That's a terrible looking skirt regardless of who wears it.

If one was to believe conspiracy theories, you would think they were trying to make one so bad no-one buys it!

I like this concept but their sizing is for anorexics
A XXXL is a 34.5 inch waist.

Anyway, the idea of '2 for 1' is a bonus :D

I would use a safety pin up near the waistband, to hoick the longer panel up into line.

Really, when they go for their first men's skirt you'd think they would make it pretty tame. OK, so it's black, but how many of their male customers have even one asymmetrical garment? It's a big ask, wanting a man to put a skirt on. To make it his first squinty garment as well is perhaps going too far.

So 9/10. Keep trying, Zara!
Keep on skirting,
