Haven't yet worn a pair myself, but now I wonder...

Haut culture often does look pretty ridiculous, but I find it helps to think of it as an art form rather than as styles for everyday wear.

Most people don't like most paintings, either. Like, if you like Rembrandt, you probably don't like Picasso. Same with clothing styles.

But did you ever think that it takes guts ("balls") for a man to wear high heels?

It takes more than that!! It takes patience and a good sense of balance especially if you are wearing 6 inch stilettos.

So far, at least, 3" is my maximum. Do you really wear 6"? And if so, what platform?

As to balance, yes, wearing heels does require more than wearing flats. I think having strong legs and ankles helps too. It's just something you have to practice.

I am unable to wear heels of over 1.5 inches due to ankles damaged in my youth. So I don't even try anymore. I do know some people who do wear those 6 inch spikes though, and I can only go by what they say. I do know that these poor people warn of pain. But they have beautiful legs and posture when in them. One lady who shall remain unnamed ( well known TV star) that I was very closely attached to at one time, wore them all of the time. She paid Large $$$ for them to be custom made just for her feet. Never had any pain or problems either. She would walk over a mile every day in those shoes just to keep her ankles in shape.

I can believe about the custom made. There's far more variation in comfort for high heels than there is for flats.

Comfort is very hard to predict, though, when buying shoes online, which I have to do because local stores almost never carry my size. Free returns (including shipping) are pretty much a necessity.

I wear heels all the time with my skirts, wouldn't think of wearing anything else, but never anything over four inches as I do a lot of walking and standing while on my outings, and comfort is a must. Now that we're in spring, my shoe of choice are platform wedge sandals and slides which provide comfort, stability and style. The ones I have all sport four inch heels but are so comfortable and easy to wear, it's hard to believe they're that high.

In re: 4" heels: My hat's off to you Jeff.

The highest I ever felt comfortable in were 3 1/2" stiletto heels. And frankly they were pretty darn comfortable, mostly because they were solidly built. I was a decade or so younger as well.

Recently I got a couple pair that were 3-3 1/4" (I think, I haven't accurately measured them, but I'm quite sure my stilettos were taller.). Beautiful shoes, but my feet may never forgive me.

Hi, Metoeke, and congratulations on your first post.

I like wearing heels too, although usually only 3". The secret, I find, is making sure you have a good fit before you buy.

But, this being a skirt forum, what kind of skirts do you wear, and how often, and where? And feel free to post this to the Introductions topic.
