I would love to see what everyone will be wearing for Thanksgiving. Bring on the pictures!

I haven't made up my mind yet, but am slowly converging on two possibilities. One is a variation of what I wore for Halloween which is close to this, and the other involves a very bold combination involving the red/purple look I showed a couple of weeks ago paired with a green/black plaid mini which has the faintest touch of red in it to pull it all together.

The all-up formality of the maxi and ruffled shirt always works; the mini would be vastly more daring, and certainly much brighter. Much depends on what the weather will be like...

That was a very nice look for Halloween there crfriend. I really like that outfit. Thanks for sharing! The weather here has been in the 30's and 40's very cold. Not sure where your from but can understand you on wearing to suit the weather.

I expect to be trousered, as we will be dining with my Republican conservative kinfolk. It isn't the time or place for "coming out" to them. I'll be happy if I can hold my tongue long nough to get through the day. They cant help but try and goad me with their ignorant political brainwashed bigotry. At least my gay nephew and his husband (is that the correct term?) will be there...

My father in law would fit right in on the politician bigotry the man watches Fox news and that's all he talks about when he calls Moon. It gets so annoying having to hear about it. To bad you have to wear trousers. Hopefully it won't last too long and you can go back home to where you can wear what you want comfortably.

Jeans and flannel shirt. Temperatures in the twenties to single digits and I'm on-call for work. I do electrical and mechanical repairs.
You don't get to judge me by your standards. I have to judge me by mine.

Most likely a utility kilt, tights, 2" heels, and either a sweater or a couple of layered t-shirts, colors TBD.

High temperature that day probably about 70°, overnight low about 50°.
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

Likely what I usually wear everyday when I go out or to church: a cotton, tartan lavalava/wrap skirt coupled with my clan crest kilt pin (Murray), flip flops, a t-shirt, and a cardigan. Maybe I'll finish it all with a tartan rayon scarf, or if not scarf, then maybe a shell necklace and my striped clam shell earrings I made myself. Here's the earrings:

Easy, comfy, cheap, and "formal" enough to please those who like to tell others what they can/can't wear in any given social situation.

I'll try to take and post a pic this weekend.

Jenn, what's your outfit going to be?

Thanks! That photograph was taken late last year at the birthday party of a friend of mine, but aside from the blouse was the same as for Halloween (same style blouse, though with ruffles, but just not lace). The skirt is a pleated "floor-sweeper". Keeping it out of the snow and the slush in the big city to my east was a pain in the neck.

I'm in mid-state Massachusetts (for now), and at the moment the temperature is hovering in the upper 20s. That's not particularly cold for around here, so I'm fine with most anything I wind up putting on. Most everything's heated, anyway, so one is only cold if walking and until the car warms up.

The mini-based look is still under consideration; my main worry is not having the stones to properly pull it off given the lumps I've taken over the past few months.

Carl, it seems there is something almost... what's the word... "colonial" about your clothing. Very nice, and to my untrained sense of perception, very "in tune" with your region, yet is very eclectic in it's own way. Very nice!

Oh come now Dillon, what's the holidays without a big knock down blow out?? It's somewhat traditional!

Shout out to my "on call" brethren here! I too must shoulder that burden until 3PM on Thanksgiving day when all of the stores will close so we can enjoy time with our families. Here's hoping all those rack ovens keep purring along for the next 48 hours, unlike last year when myself and two other co-workers found our selves at Weber City VA at 1AM on Thanksgiving morning repairing a large rack oven in haste so the store could rush out 130 turkey dinner orders in a few hours.

...

As for me... undecided. Although thanks to this website, my Jennifer's reading of it, I think I heard her say the other day I could go "skirted" if I wanted to. Yet I'm personally still undecided. If I am skirted it will probably at least be a conservative skirt. But as of yet, I don't know. I may just wear my nice cargo trousers. We'll see. We're going out this year to a restaurant to eat.

You don't need my permission to wear a skirt. If you want to wear something go for it. I don't control what you wear.. I like how you dress whether in skirts or trousers as most call them. As long as we can take some family pictures I don't care what you wear as long as you look nice.

I feel ya. I hate when Moon is on call as he's on call this week. I wish he had a job where he wasn't on call. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving! Stay warm.

It's not about control, but simply about respect for the situation or occasion. While I do enjoy wearing skirts, and look forward to the day when men can wear them on more formal occasions, I do respect the fact that trousers are still the de facto standard for men in the west. If I were attending a conservative wedding or funeral for example, I would naturally wear the appropriate attire. As it was mentioned, there may be pictures taken to be distributed to family, and much for the same reason as Dillon stated... I too prefer to keep drama to a minimum.

Yes it would be nice if family were more accepting. It would be nice to have world peace, end to hunger, disease, and pollution... but alas.... life's not always "nice".

Yeah I am not from drama especially from either side of your family we've been there and done that. That's one can of worms that can stay closed. As for distributing photos no one will be getting any of our photos especially your family you know how it would go if they found out your wearing skirts. It'd go the same way it did when they were bashing your religion. I'm aiming for nice holidays. Just wear what you feel comfortable in. You have my full support either way. Be yourself and don't worry about anything else!

Actually, the look (like its owner) is an anachronistic mess. There's no single time-period involved in it; components are freely borrowed from quite a few historical periods and some is just plain made up on the fly. This is another example and shows the fun one can have with being "out of time". My entire psyche is a bit of an anachronism in and of itself, so it feels perfectly natural for me to pull looks from the late Renaissance, match them with stuff from the Victorian era, and then toss a skirt into the mix which doesn't "belong" anywhere in time in Western culture (or what passes for). The trick is to make it all work together and not be too jarring to the onlooker.

I figure that if I can conjure the look of a slightly confused time-traveller (and possibly a bit lost) then I've hit the mark fairly closely as that's what I feel like much of the time. Some of me is absolutely and deeply rooted in the past, yet other parts are well ahead of the curve -- almost like I don't belong anywhere at all.
Shout out to my "on call" brethren here!
Having done that in the past, I can only applaud the sentiment. Stand by your brothers and likely they'll stand by you.
As for me... undecided.
Go with what your heart says, and let the detractors simmer in their own venom.

Me? I'm having Thanksgiving dinner with friends -- a wondrous mix of new and old.
