Hot and Humid!

I noticed the skirt first and then the heels. In a 2D photo, given the brown hues of the setting, the hose didn't catch my attention until they were pointed out.

Interestingly, I had no problem noting almost everything in the photo within about 3/4 of a second. The shoes got first attention, perhaps because of the angle of the photo, followed almost instantly by the skirt, then the hose; the car came next (because it was unusual), both in frame and in the reflection in the display case, and then the rest of the context.

All in all, that's a good look, and congratulations on the understanding boss and clientele!

I was looking at a photo that was like 1.5 inches by 2 inches on my tablet. I could see the reflection of the car in some glass but not the actual car. Now the entire photo is missing from the thread.

The temp today at the house reached 104*F
with the "Official" temp at DFW Int'l as 106*F
Hottest day since August 9, 2012 when the
temp reached 108*F.

We've just endured our coldest July for at least 22 years and perhaps since records began. On Sat. 8th August I left our domicile at 06.15 hours to drive to a rowing outing. It was, wait fit it...FOUR deg. Celsius outside. Nearly a frost! Humidity is always there on this island anyway and I had to run round the car wiping it off the windows before I could drive off......Like October!.

They used to call it "global warming", until someone realized that the changes would make some parts of the world cooler. Whatever happens, we'll go on producing ever larger quantities of unnatural gas, so the phenomenon is not going to disappear. We are in for all kinds of extreme weather, hotter colder, wetter, drier, stormier, depending on the luck of the draw.
July was the hottest in living memory here in Spain; unfortunately I missed most of it, finding myself in Quebec where they were having the chilliest summer in years.

Well, I almost found myself scrambling for some of my autumn skirts and seriously contemplated tights as well as the mercury alcohol (and no, not my "blood"stream) said the temperature was in the 50s (Old World units). I settled on my fleece Mouse Works skirt, wool waistcoat, and white dress shirt and knee-high sheers. Yes, I had the heat on in the car, and here in the office it feels like it's in the 50s as well and now I'm regretting not dressing for autumn.

On climate change: Yes, Virginia, it's real. Tides are higher now than they have been in centuries, new species of mosquito are moving into New England -- of the sort that bite all day and not just in the evening, and weather events are growing increasingly violent and treacherous when they do happen. But, we still have those who deny it's happening. I guess they don't have memories, eyes, or brains.

Are humans causing it? No. Are we accelerating it? Yes. Can we stop the change? No. Can we slow it? Maybe. Can we adapt as a species? Who knows. Recall that extinction is the rule, not the exception, in the natural world -- and humans are not immune to that.

So there's your happy thought for the day.

Sorry, it didn't brighten up my day but it does put things in perspective; what others think about the stitching of a piece of cloth does seem rather immaterial in comparison. Opens up many possible responses.
"Why are you wearing a skirt?"
"I am getting ready for climate change, and that is worthy of concern, rather than what I am wearing"
Maybe a bit heavy - but if skirt wearing became a symbol of acknowledgement of global warming ...............
Not that we need a reason to wear a skirt but they are great in hot weather.

Well, the problem with that is that it's not warming everywhere -- take a look at poor Kirbstone on the Emerald Isle with highs in the single digits Celsius in early August (although that may be a local anomaly). But, yes, in general short skirts are great in hot weather.

I need to lay in a few skirts for the coming winter; the heavy ones I shared with my ex- are now gone and I'll need something for when the cold winds blow.

"highs' isn't quite right. It was at 06.15 in the morning after a clear night that It was nearly freezing. That day would have seen perhape 18-19 deg. in the afternoon, but it gets chilly again near dusk, so sitting out till 11PM in short sleeves with a 'sundowner' has been a no-no for us this year.

True, it is not warming everywhere climatewise. I don't have an answer for cold weather. I have given up on skirts in a comparatively mild winter, temps similar to what Tom is experiencing - I don't know how you all cope so well.

Here on the Scottish Wet coast, 6 to 7 degrees centipede over night if it's clear, if cloudy probably 10 to 15 degrees. This year I can't remember seeing more than one day in a row without rain, daytime temps up to maybe 17 degrees with the help of that big glowing orb in the sky.
A couple of months ago I took my barbecue out of the garage, I haven't used it at all this year, I gave up with the cover I bought as it just kept blowing off in the constant Westerly winds. I have now given up and put the BBQ back in the garage, maybe next year will be less dismal, but I don't think so. Skirt wise I keep going back to the long ones as the weather just isn't warm enough to wander around without lagging on the legs.
