New Years Resolution

I'm making a New Years resolution to wear skirts when I want to and not feel intimidated by society. And I'm starting on New Years eve. I'm 57 and I've earned the right to do what I want so long as it's legal and moral. Does anyone else have a similar resolution?

I would love to resolve wearing skirts or kits 100% of the time but for spousal reasons 95% is probably the best I can do.

Yes Brd, that's my main resolution also but as Cltrn said this has to be tempered by the feelings of MOH which will limit somewhat the occasions until she can show some degree of acceptance and tolerance. I also will resolve to get her to be with me in public with me skirted at least once just to prove our point that no-one else really cares.

I will also make this resolution - I am lucky that MOH is mostly OK being in public with me skirted (although she does sometimes say "not a good look to wear in public").

I wonder if it might help those with more reluctant OHs if they could 'by chance' encounter another forum member out skirted with their OH? Obviously would have to be arranged in secret with another forum member living in the same area. Any thoughts?

On several occasions I've been out with my wife, seen another guy in a kilt, and pointed the kilt-wearer out to her. However, she remains unconvinced.

Your mileage, of course, may vary. Each person and each situation is different.

I think it helps not just our wives and SOs, but other men who have even more self-repression, due to spouses or others, than many of us. But we are the ones who have to lead by example.

The fact is we each do as we do.
We do what we can within the the confines of our lives.
Wear a skirt day in, day out, all very well.
Once in the blue moon, it can say just as much, if not more.

Truly ,the best of luck with all your resolutions, however, I'd agree with SS, I can never make them last.
"Mony a mickle maks a muckle", many small things add up to a lot. The guy who wears a skirt once in a "while" can be making just as valid and perhaps, greater contribution than a "daily" wearer.
"Lang mae yer lum reek", literally means long may your chimney smoke. However, it's more of a blessing from my house to your's.
Think "Live long and prosper".
I've not made any resolutions for 2015, except to try to be happy and myself!

Yes. I made mine back in early 2011 because I got fed up with societies double standards on quite a few aspects of life including freedom of choice of dress - for one gender. Having lived a skirted life in private for years before hand, and 'life' putting me under a counsellor in 2011, I raised this resolution with her and MOH's then concerns of others reactions by going public and less than 4 weeks later I took the plunge and have not looked back since. Even MOH after our first public outing was completely relaxed about it even though she said there is no reason men cannot or should not. As with many aspects with humans it's the fear of the unknown that causes problems - in this case the expected 99% public negativity and physical behaviour, which quite simply is not out there. Physical negativity might be out there in certain areas but you do get a feel of where these areas are and they are in the very small minority.

Go for it, and you do it. It is not illegal, certainly in 'westernised democratic' countries.

I know that it's only day 3 but on New Year's Eve I told MOH that I intended wearing a skirt on odd days and trousers on even days as I indicated in another thread, another post and all she said was "in how many days do I get the most trouser wearing?" I said non-committedly, "I don't think it really matters," knowing that there are slightly more odd days in a year than even. So far I have kept to this although I realise that there's a long way to go.

I can't let this pass without comment. Women have a more serious freedom of choice in dress. They are apt to be socially and legally hassled if they go without a shirt; something that I, as a man, do freely most of the time in hot weather.

Part of my motivation in wearing a skirt is to protest sexism against everyone.

When you have worn skirts for a while and become used to them, the trousered days will feel like the 'odd' ones.
