Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. A new offering from Old Navy that I wore on an outing yesterday. A 17 inch utility skirt in olive, stylish, comfortable and easy to wear. Oh, yeah, it shows off my legs too! Old Navy sells some very nice skirts and is worth checking out.

I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman.
Today is Polling day in the UK for the European elections and for some for local councils too. Polling stations open at 07:00 so I decided to stop and do my civic duty on my way home from walking the dog.
I suspect I will be the only skirted male to cast a vote at that polling station today but my attire did not so much as raise an eyebrow with the six or seven officials there; which is just as it should be.
For the sake of completeness, I should say that I was wearing my khaki wrap skirt (about three inches above the knee - picture here) and a polo shirt in the unique shade of "once white" called 1000 wash grey. Not a great outfit, but very comfortable and practical for walking a large dog through muddy woods.
Have fun,
Ian.

I have already voted - but in trousers. I had hopes of being skirted as I was at the last Scottish parliament elections.
The weather here has a HIGH of 10deg C today and when I voted it was only around 7Deg C and with the northerly wind, my face would have looked like.
A bit cold without the winter tights on!

I have been working in the boatyard, getting my boat ready, mostly in my Elcommando hiking kilt. I lost a few pounds recently and it fits now without being under too much strain. I am now thinking of buying another couple of these, great to work in, light, plenty of movement- more freedom to move than my cargo skirts. I can see that they could be problematic in high winds but other than sunburnt legs last Wednesday while working on the boat the hiking kilt was great. No-one seemed to notice the kilt at all.

Do ya think that by any chance it is possible to alter the Elkommando? I apparently need a XL size and had ordered a XXL and I am not willing to get through the hassle of buying a new one.
I think mine is an XXL and could do with being a bit larger for me, I will have a look at it and see if anything springs to mind, I know when a friend let my first traditional kilt out do to my increased weight it was never quite right again, but she isn't a professional kiltmonger. Thinks, I will get the kilt now, I am sitting here suffering jeans and should go for comfort again, they are all upstairs...

I am no tailor, but looking at the kilt I don't see how it can be altered to adjust the sizing. I suppose you could sell the XXL one and buy a new smaller one. I could maybe help you there, I am thinking of getting another myself (XXL) and when I checked yesterday the kilts are currently on sale.

Out skirted much of the weekend so far. Yesterday we went to a play in a community theater in Wilmington - Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson - weird, but nicely performed. Then today we took the park launch out to Bear Island, an uninhabited four-mile long barrier island now an outstanding state park. Being a holiday, the beaches were bustling with visitors, and the weather was perfect. The ocean water has warmed up nicely now, very nice swimming. Also picked up close to a hundred delicate shimmering jingles from the sand for whenever I resume making jewelry...they make interesting earrings.
Last night I wore an calf-length black sheer two-layer skirt by Surrale (inner layer shorter and opaque, outer layer sheer and see-through, shows legs through it from the knee down) with a black print shirt by Caribbean Joe, with black toe thong sandals by Oboz. Today I was in a GI green canvas skirt, roughly knee length, by Royal Robbins with a black "Science Olympiad" Jerzees Tee, and blue Chaco sandals. Underneath was a Tyr black lycra swimsuit. I tried to post pics, but something isn't cooperating today; maybe my comp or maybe the site...not sure...I don't think the photo was oversize in pixels.

Saturday had dinner with friends at a hotel and then saw the new X-Men film, the film was OK but the earlier films were better, wore a long, ankle length "tencel" material skirt with shirt and fleece jacket. No one seemed to take any interest.
I had two women ask me where they could find Chaco sandals locally today, so I know they were looking at what I was wearing...I suppose it was not comfortable for them to mention my skirt? I would much rather they would, so at least we were honest with each other. I didn't dress that way because I feared being seen in a skirt. Of course, if they didn't have anything nice to say, then ignoring it is better, I suppose.
