Re: Mythical Characters
With the sash, too! I can live with that.
However, as a stereotypical bloke, I find "Smurfs" so cute that they're saccharine.

Re: Mythical Characters
Yep - just as I thought - that Smurf is cross dressing!
His outfit looks more like a pleated skirt than a kilt because
it doesn't have the flat apron part in the front. LOL
But He is a cute little guy! Thanks for posting him.

Re: Mythical Characters
Or maybe he just put it on backwards!
I also thought the sporran was supposed to be worn slightly toward the right hip? In this case it is toward the left hip.

Re: Mythical Characters
But that's the problem with nomenclature nowadays - a pleated, tartan skirt can be called a kilt even though technically it's not because it doesn't have the apron. Definitions are becoming blurred which works in our favour because we can wear such a skirt a claim that it's a kilt. Hmmmm.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

I love the ginger sideburns! And that he is called Gutsy. Scotsmen in kilts are hard.
Keep on skirting,

Haven't heard that one. Normally, I think it is centrally placed at the front.pleated wrote:Or maybe he just put it on backwards!

At least he isn't wearing a "See You Jimmy!" hat with ginger hair sticking out from a tartan "tammy" (colloquial name for for a "Tam O'Shanter hat")

Re: Mythical Characters
I'm afraid I can't speak of the Smurfs as it was a series I never did watch, but I do give them kudos for having a character attired in a "kilt"!
There is one mythical individual that was an anti-hero to me and he wore a skirt! Does anyone here remember "Marvin the Martian" and his dog who I think was named Pluto (no, no, that was Mickey Mouse's dog)!
The dog was also skirted and wore converse style tennis shoes. They always wanted to blow-up the earth.

Oh my word, YES! Marvin the Martian and his Illudium Q-32 Space Modulator were always a threat to Earth and anything else that might get in the way of his view of the cosmos.wsherman wrote:Does anyone here remember "Marvin the Martian" and his dog who I think was named Pluto (no, no, that was Mickey Mouse's dog)!
Greetings, Sir, and please give Sir Brinkley a scratch behind the ears for me. Sadly for me, it's yet another night of "wintry mix" and a dive back into the deep-freeze for tomorrow. I am absolutely, positively, thrilled.Bill & Sir Brinkley the Exubrant who is getting more so with the onset of warmer weather!

Re: Mythical Characters
Apologies to Bill & Sir Brinkley, but here on the Emerald Isle we're not short of mythical characters, least of all Leprechauns.
Traditionally they are to be found at the end of a rainbow in possession of a pot of gold. Searching through illustrations I failed to find a kilted/skirted one, but did find a school dress-up for both genders all skirted in unisex leprechaun-like outfits.
In Central Dublin one haunts the statue of another mythical character...Molly Malone. Known locally as 'The tart with the cart'.(Background: Provost's House, Trinity College, 1759.)

Re: Mythical Characters
I found this leprachaun wearing a kilt
Of course Scotland has its own mythical creatures - the most well know of which is Nessie. He (or she - some dubiety about that) also wears a kilt

Re: Mythical Characters
Hello
For those who are racking their greay matter for the name of Marvin the Martians' dog it was K9. He could as I remember salute with his ear!
"Oh goody! Now I can blow up the 'arth!"
Kilt and skirt on!
Slainte'
Bill & Sir Brinkley the Exubrant who cannot salute with his ear and wouldn't let anyone blow up the earth. He likes the trees too much! LOL!

Re: Mythical Characters
K-9 was the name of Dr Who's robot dog back in the Tom Baker days. I loathed it.

Re: Mythical Characterse
Hi Big an Bashful!
I remember K-9 from Dr. Who the character never did much for me one way or the other but the wife is a Tom Baker fan as Doctor Who and has even knitted the (in) famous scarf that his Doctor was wont to wear!
It seems that Marvins' sidekick and the Doctor's shared the same moniker.
Hmmm I wonder if we'll ever see the good Doctor in a kilt or even a skirt?!?!

Re: Mythical Characters
I remember (vaguely) the first or second Doctor has as one of his assistants, a young guy in a kilt.
I do wish one of the many Sky channels would start showing some very early Doctor Who episodes, from the Hartnel and other periods. I can barely remember them at all and would love to see them now, even in B+W with all their cheesiness intact.
