However, as a stereotypical bloke, I find "Smurfs" so cute that they're saccharine.

Yep - just as I thought - that Smurf is cross dressing!

His outfit looks more like a pleated skirt than a kilt because
it doesn't have the flat apron part in the front. LOL

Or maybe he just put it on backwards!
I also thought the sporran was supposed to be worn slightly toward the right hip? In this case it is toward the left hip.

But that's the problem with nomenclature nowadays - a pleated, tartan skirt can be called a kilt even though technically it's not because it doesn't have the apron. Definitions are becoming blurred which works in our favour because we can wear such a skirt a claim that it's a kilt. Hmmmm.

Haven't heard that one. Normally, I think it is centrally placed at the front.

I'm afraid I can't speak of the Smurfs as it was a series I never did watch, but I do give them kudos for having a character attired in a "kilt"!

There is one mythical individual that was an anti-hero to me and he wore a skirt! Does anyone here remember "Marvin the Martian" and his dog who I think was named Pluto (no, no, that was Mickey Mouse's dog)!
The dog was also skirted and wore converse style tennis shoes. They always wanted to blow-up the earth.

Apologies to Bill & Sir Brinkley, but here on the Emerald Isle we're not short of mythical characters, least of all Leprechauns.

Traditionally they are to be found at the end of a rainbow in possession of a pot of gold. Searching through illustrations I failed to find a kilted/skirted one, but did find a school dress-up for both genders all skirted in unisex leprechaun-like outfits.

In Central Dublin one haunts the statue of another mythical character...Molly Malone. Known locally as 'The tart with the cart'.

K-9 was the name of Dr Who's robot dog back in the Tom Baker days. I loathed it.

I remember K-9 from Dr. Who the character never did much for me one way or the other but the wife is a Tom Baker fan as Doctor Who and has even knitted the (in) famous scarf that his Doctor was wont to wear!
It seems that Marvins' sidekick and the Doctor's shared the same moniker.

Hmmm I wonder if we'll ever see the good Doctor in a kilt or even a skirt?!?!

I remember (vaguely) the first or second Doctor has as one of his assistants, a young guy in a kilt.
I do wish one of the many Sky channels would start showing some very early Doctor Who episodes, from the Hartnel and other periods. I can barely remember them at all and would love to see them now, even in B+W with all their cheesiness intact.
