Re: Skirts and Habits.
I got this women's Abaya at EastEssence:

I believe that the Abaya is a dress like garment worn by Muslim women. BTW, I think that the garment looks good on him.
Re: Skirts and Habits.
Found an image for the phiran of Kashmir. Sounds like a promising garment for chilly weather.

Out to do the last minute Christmas shopping I wandered into Menkind, a sort of "guys gadgets and junk" shop, where I spotted their space rugs. These are made of very soft fleece and had been marked down to £15.00. I could not resist it and now have a brown ("rust" might be more accurate) one for use around the house. Fortunately it is far too big for Carole, or I suspect I would have lost it by now. I was pleased to note that it did not gain any push back from Carole at all.Sarongman wrote:I would have bought a "Shoreline" straight away, until-----that price. No way Jose.

Nice look on the "space rugs". I note with amusement that they describe it as "a blanket with sleeves and a hood", yet, unless I mistake the pattern, the basic cut isn't exactly rectangular - or at a minimum is approximately a very non-blanket shaped rectangle. Glad you've managed to keep yours so you aren't wishing you'd picked up enough to make stealing them all infeasible.

I did and have just dropped him off in town; we'll see what he brings back with him later...crfriend wrote:Tell him to get his own.Milfmog wrote:Only if my son pinches it... Then this Jedi could get very vengeful![]()

In the film Silent Running an astronaut wore a Space Rug aboard the spaceship.
The Space Rug reminds me that the Western wardrobe is lacking in lounge wear, even for women. I can certainly imagine a man wearing a Space Rug while seated out on a deck, sipping coffee.
It occurs to me that a robe like garment has an inherent gender distinction-if made for a male the shoulders will be much broader than those in a robe tailored for women.

Maybe, but these are made with drop shoulders so there would be no need to change the proportions for the female form. The biggest issue with these is that they are only available in one size. I'm 6'3" tall and have a couple of inches between hem and floor, Carole wold be dragging five or six inches of material around and would undoubtedly trip over the hem.Grok wrote:It occurs to me that a robe like garment has an inherent gender distinction-if made for a male the shoulders will be much broader than those in a robe tailored for women.

That's what a sewing-machine is for, or an evening by the fire with needle and thread. Add darts to accentuate the curves, and there you are!Milfmog wrote:[... I wonder if they ship to the US. Winter is here, after all. (Except in my study.)

Bah, humbug. Good thought, though. At least it sounds like you won't freeze in your study. Hope you don't get stuck outside of it for too long this winter, then:)Menkind FAQ page wrote:We do not currently ship to any location outside of Europe.

Re: Skirts and Habits.
Its a pity the Space Rug isn't exported overseas. I think there would be a market for the space rug in other countries. Likely North America, for example.

Re: Skirts and Habits.
I concur. However, robes of various ilk can be had -- or at least were able to be had -- at many retailers.Grok wrote:Its a pity the Space Rug isn't exported overseas.
I developed an affectation for wearing robes back in the 1980s, and would almost always wear one when hanging around my apartment, frequently just over my regular clothes, and it was absolutely a style preference (heat was included in the rent, so I could have kept the place hot if I wanted to).
That caused quite the bit of hilarity one time when I hosted a get-together for the guys I worked with at the time, and assorted commentary about Jedi Knights and whatnot was made, but overall it was very warm joking and entirely accepting. My robe at the time didn't reach the floor (try finding a floor-length robe for a 6'4" bloke sometime, although Milfmog got lucky!) and I had my usual trousers on under (else it'd have looked awkward for "company") but it was there nonetheless.
That robe is long gone, and I miss it. Methinks I need to find another.
