"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Hot Dog! He's got himself in a pickle! It took me awhile to mustard up the courage to say that. Now someone is going to have to ketchup with me about bad puns. I relish the challenge.
You don't get to judge me by your standards. I have to judge me by mine.

Well, at least the driver didn't roll the thing, else there'd have been a bun-fight on the part of the recovery crews to pick the thing up and devour the proceeds.Sarongman wrote:Aaargh! someone please--o pun the door and let Taj out.

I hear tonight that you've been selling off your old books, Carl.
The proceeds from that sale ought to keep you going for another few months if a new job doesn't turn up!

I believe you have been misinformed. Whilst I do have a fairly substantial library, with much of it quite technical, I have many other volumes which I occasionally go back to; it's rather like visiting old friends, and something I quite cherish.Kirbstone wrote:I hear tonight that you've been selling off your old books, Carl.
One day, of necessity, my library will be scattered to the winds, but that will be after my death. That latter facet is entirely expected at some point and should not be construed as something else.

Carl,
I couldn't agree more. One thing we DO do together is collect decent books and our house is full of them. We inherited a lot from both sets of parents and they provide a reminder of them and their tastes.
Unfortunately in February 1986 we had a fire in the study of our 'Old Vicarage' in Herefordshire and lost several hundred books , lots of family silent movies and several pictures, one of which was a fine watercolour of our Kerry bolthole done by an esteemed colleague, now deceased. I am sad about that.
However, Life goes on and we have built up a decent collection again. Opening the fire-damaged volumes one immediately gets the awful smell of the fire, which is a sad reminder.
That is but a trifle compared to the shocking devastation suffered in Japan and the Phillipines recently, so nothing is bad but it could be an awful lot worse.
I was referring to the recent auction sale in Boston of the oldest printed volume in America for something like $14 million .
Tom.
