No great loss it was only £4 / $6. It might still come in handy if one of my jeans belts goes missing.

Re: First time?
When I first saw the item there was only about 90 seconds remaining. I didn't quite have time to go asking questions unfortunately. It was either a case of bid and win the item (there were no other bids) or leave it so I chose to bid. As mentioned I'd previously bought the longer version in a size 16, but it was a bit tight, so thought all I needed was the next size up and this appeared to be it.

I don't find the idea of men wearing skirts, tights or dresses whilst presenting as male degrading. What I find most degrading is society dictating that men should only dress in a certain way, whilst affording the opp sex an unrestricted freedom of choice
Re: First time?
I did a breast cancer walk last year wearing a black Utilikilt and a pink tee shirt. I had the same reactions of "a man in a skirt and wearing pink!" Even had some photos taken.skirtingtoday wrote:S Legs - My firt time (apart from a kilt) was a mini (see above). I wear a ladies size 12 though so perhaps as with slimmer women, they look better with shorter skirts? Certainly on a charity walk a couple of years ago, I wore it and got lots of positive feedback ""Wow! Man in a skirt! Cool!" was the best one I can tell you. But there were many other thumbs up from other walkers and assistants. I did the same walk the following year and got a jealous comment, "You've got better legs than me in a skirt!"
Re: First time?
I don't know how handy you are with a needle and thread but you could always add another overlapping piece of material to the bottom of the skirt in the same material or same/contrasting colour. If it doesn't work then take the added piece off and try again. If you are going to be reluctant to wear it as it is then you've got nothing to lose and it can always be a test skirt for other ideas you may have. If you aren't handy with a needle then is there anyone else you can trust to help?
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Re: First time?
I can stitch things but I'm VERY slooow. It only cost four quid I'll probably just wear it around the house for now. Who knows though if I get my confidence up with a longer skirt I might still wear it in the future. Watch this space as they say!Sinned wrote:I don't know how handy you are with a needle and thread but you could always add another overlapping piece of material to the bottom of the skirt in the same material or same/contrasting colour. The charity walk I was on was also for breast cancer - and I too had to wear the pink T-shirt!rick401r wrote: I did a breast cancer walk last year wearing a black Utilikilt and a pink tee shirt. I had the same reactions of "a man in a skirt and wearing pink!" Even had some photos taken.

What was it like going out your first time wearing a skirt?
It was in 1982 when I was 16. I bought a denim mini skirt from a department store (my first skirt purchase) and decided to wear it around the store and for the 20 minute walk home. I'd been wanting to do this for a while so the feeling was quite electric.
What did people say/do?
The sales lady was a bit surprised, but very accommodating. Some of the other shoppers did a little double take but nothing remotely negative.
How did you get up the courage to do it?
I don't know. I just knew it was something that was going to happen sooner or later, so I just did it.
What did your wife/S.O. have to say about it?
I was single at the time. These days my wife doesn't like it, but accepts that it happens and doesn't try to stop it.
How nervous were you?
Moderately nervous, but the feeling was electric and thrilling.

Absolutely. Thrift shops are my fav haunt these days.Caultron wrote:Don't overlook thrift shops. They're a great way to get started, you can measure them or try them on before buying, and they're cheap enough to try various styles without much expense.

First time out? A favourite country walk, wearing knee-length blue denim. Main impression the feeling of freedom and ease of movement compared with walking in jeans.
Comments? At the top of a steep rise, soon after the start of the walk, a couple sitting on a bench enjoying the view. I said "Good afternoon", to which the reply was "Do you always carry a camera", followed by a long conversation about photography. The skirt wasn't mentioned.
Courage/nerves ? The worst bit was getting out of the car in an almost deserted car park at the start of the walk. I was a little nervous at finding people I had to talk to, but finding they had no interest in the way I was dressed fixed that.
Wife?SO ? As a widower, I'm pretty sure my wife wouldn't like it. My daughter accepts my skirts as mild eccentricity, as do her children, though she and they mostly see me trousered. My son disapproves, though his wife is merely mildly amused

I have always found that the first couple of steps away from wherever I am starting from are the most difficult. After a half dozen I forget about what I'm wearing. Unless it is long and lightweight and the wind is blowing.JPatrickM wrote:Courage/nerves ? The worst bit was getting out of the car in an almost deserted car park at the start of the walk.

Re: First time?
I went for a walk around the block in my first Utilikilt with my wife.
Heart rate was up a bit and I was looking at everyone to see their reaction.
Only comment "Wow that must be some much cooler and more comfortable than trousers or shorts on a day like today"
That one comment gave me the confidence to continue down the path and the rest is history as they say.

If you haven't worn a skirt you haven't found freedom!
